Question 1 of 10
1. As someone who dabbles in IT as part of his work experience, eburge offered to show a less than technologically savvy 2k the wonders of using the internet on a PC. Before long, however, there were pop-ups and spam and malware all over the screen. Alas, 2k had unwittingly disabled some important security features on his computer. Which of these would not have been a major cause of all this cyber to-do? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Flopsymopsy took 2k for some work experience at a graduation ceremony and asked him to help with the line of graduands about to go on stage. All he had to do was make sure that they went on to the stage in the order listed in the programme but after the ceremony flopsy discovered that two people had swapped over, walked right past 2k, and as a result got the wrong degree certificates. What sort of students often cause nightmares for graduation organisers and their hapless assistants? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Salami decided to take 2k to work with his uncle at the American deli counter in the supermarket. His first customer approached and asked for a pound of sliced honey ham at two. So, naturally, 2k gave them two giant slices of meat.

That was, unfortunately, incorrect. What does the two actually mean when ordering sliced meat at the deli counter in the United States?
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Madkeen4 works as a forklift operator loading trucks. He takes 2k out to the loading docks and says, "I need 2 x 2k pallets loaded onto the truck." What measurement is he referring to? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Looney_tunes invited 2k to visit Melbourne, and help out with the annual Pony Club rally by leading the ponies whose young riders were wearing costumes that hampered their already limited ability to control their mounts in the Fancy Dress competition. Unfortunately, one of the ponies was startled by his sudden appearance, and shied, leaving the distraught youngster on the ground. Looney got her remounted, and showed 2k how he should have approached the horse to avoid this incident. What did she suggest? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Glendathecat has inspired 2k to consider the priesthood but, setting his sights high, he wants to know his chances of becoming Pope. Which of these would rule him out from the position (were it to be true)? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Would 2k seriously consider an email offer from Dcpddc478 asking him if he would like to come to Bhutan and work with him as a cetologist?

Question 8 of 10
8. Dcpddc478 decides to invite 2k down to central Florida to look at the options that are open in the field of law enforcement. As they drive around the first night it becomes necessary to chase the suspect in an armed robbery. Dcpddc478 uses a Taser to take the subject down, cuffs him, and then turns and asks the now breathless 2k if he knows what the term Taser actually means? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Kyle suggests that perhaps quiz editing is in 2k's nature and asks him to come onboard as a FunTrivia volunteer editor. Kyle asks a number of weird follow-up questions along the lines of "do you or do you not love Katamari?"; "is the cake or is not, in fact, a lie?"; "what's your starter?". 2k is a bit confused by all of this, so it probably means he's not ready to work editing quizzes in what category? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. After trying his hand at several occupations, 2k decides that a job at Sherwood Forest Golf Club in North Carolina is the one for him. Which of the following is true of this golf club, making it perfect for 2k? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Having a web browser other than Internet Explorer installed

One of the more common issues that new computer users face is having an unprotected PC. Without proper antivirus software and a firewall in place, your computer is susceptible to all sorts of bad spyware, malware, spam, viruses and other internet nasties. Opening suspicious emails, downloading files from an unknown or unrecognised source, or clicking on advertisement pop-ups can all potentially lead to your computer becoming infected. It's extremely important to be wary when surfing the internet - if something seems amiss, it's best just to leave it alone. Spam emails are typically found in the Junk folder of your email, thanks to a spam filter that recognises the email address as one with a reputation for sending spam and other cyber-unpleasantries.

Microsoft Internet Explorer comes as standard with every edition of Windows operating systems and is the default web browser for the system. Of course, there are many other popular alternatives to IE, including Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Each of these have their own built-in system that recognises dodgy websites and suspicious links and will warn you when you click on them, but don't rely on them to keep you safe. Always make sure your antivirus software is updated and your firewall is turned on. Most antivirus programs will update themselves as necessary, and the firewall should be turned on as default, so you shouldn't need to worry about manually checking them and updating them. But, if you think your computer seems a bit sluggish or you find some programs you don't remember installing, set your antivirus to scan your system to see if anything has snuck through.

eburge quickly fixed up 2k's computer and got it back to normal, but not before receiving an 'Out of Memory' error twice in a row. 2k said he didn't remember seeing the error the first time.

Answer: Identical twins

Identical twins often have a warped sense of humour when it comes to confusing other people, no doubt as revenge for having spent their lives looking at their own image without use of a mirror. Whatever the cause, they like to swap places when in the queue waiting to go on stage but every organiser worth his or her salt will designate someone to keep an eye on any twins. However, it's not unheard of for twins to swap over before the ceremony, then they make sure they are seen swapping in the queue so that they get switched back into what is actually the wrong order. Oh what fun they have. Flopsy knew one set of twins who were determined to go on stage in the wrong order so she positioned someone at the foot of the stairs who would definitely know which one was which: their mother!

2k is all grown up now but the jury is still out on whether he's mature. He is however a Biochemist and claims to be a Scot; the latter is still unproven as his performance on University Challenge shows - ask him any question about Scotland and he will get it wrong.

Answer: Thickness of the cut

When ordering meat at the deli counter, you will often be asked what thickness you want the meat to be cut. There is sometimes a nifty chart so you can tell what each thickness looks like. Unfortunately, 2k did not realize that is what the numbers meant, and instead of a pound of ham cut at 2 thickness, he simply gave her two slices large enough to equal a pound.

Salami_swami's uncle was not pleased; neither was the customer.
4. Madkeen4 works as a forklift operator loading trucks. He takes 2k out to the loading docks and says, "I need 2 x 2k pallets loaded onto the truck." What measurement is he referring to?

Answer: Two pallets of two tonnes each

Often, when referring to loads, the loaders and drivers ask how many k are in a load, which is a shorthand reference to tonnes. Lower case k is the metric symbol for kilo-, used to show 1000 of the following unit. A kilogram is 1000 grams, and a tonne is 1000 kilograms. A load of 2k, therefore, would be 2 tonnes.

Answer: Approach from the front, slowly extending his hand towards the bridle as he gets close

At most Australian Pony Clubs, all of the horses are called ponies, even those which are much larger than would make the term technically correct. I have had it explained that this is a sign of affection for their pet. Whatever. The class whose riders need someone to lead them, however, is usually composed of very young riders on small ponies who are well versed in the vagaries of children. Nevertheless, it is important to avoid startling them.

Their eyes are on the sides of their head, so the best way to approach an unfamiliar horse is from the front, but at a slight angle so one eye can focus clearly on your approach. To avoid triggering a flight response, you should walk slowly, and make as few arm and hand movements as possible. Those that must be done should be carried out slowly and smoothly. Arm waving, singing, whistling, and popping up unexpectedly when the horse didn't see you coming are all good ways to create a disturbance, as 2k discovered.
6. Glendathecat has inspired 2k to consider the priesthood but, setting his sights high, he wants to know his chances of becoming Pope. Which of these would rule him out from the position (were it to be true)?

Answer: He's not a Catholic and doesn't want to be

Canon Law provides that any baptised male Catholic could become Pope. Indeed, technically, a non-Catholic could be elected provided they were prepared to immediately convert to Catholicism. However, since the fourteenth century every elected Pope has been a cardinal. There are no restrictions on birth; age or languages spoken (or not spoken).
7. Would 2k seriously consider an email offer from Dcpddc478 asking him if he would like to come to Bhutan and work with him as a cetologist?

Answer: No

2k would know that his old friend Dcpddc478 was kidding. 2k knows that cetology is the study of whales and other cetaceans and that Bhutan is a landlocked nation. While there might be plenty of other animals to study, if 2k wanted to be a zoologist, specializing in cetology, Bhutan would not be the place to go.

Answer: Thomas A. Swift's electric rifle

The term Taser is an acronym for "Thomas A. Swift's electric rifle" and was created by Jack Cover, a NASA researcher. This weapon is a non-lethal weapon that is usually used to subdue potentially dangerous suspects and sometimes on subjects who are fleeing on foot.

The Taser has saved many lives by giving officers an alternative weapon to the firearms that might have been used in the past. Dcpddc478 keeps 2k on the scene so that he can see the other jobs in this field such as forensics and crime scene investigation teams which show up after the suspect is subdued and citizens are safe.

Answer: Video Games

Of course, all of the questions are video game-related and all of them are quite obscure if you don't have an inkling of knowledge on the subject. "We Love Katamari", for instance, is an eclectic, Japanese-inspired PS2 game from Namco-Bandai known for its quirky music and gameplay mechanics involving a large ball that rolls up everything in its path. As for the cake being a lie, it's a question first posed in "Portal" which has since become a cultural meme; "Portal" was originally released in Valve's "Orange Box" collection but has since exploded as a popular puzzle franchise. As for starters, that'd be a question asked of a "Pokemon" player-- your starter is your first Pokemon and it varies from game to game (though usually you get a grass, fire, or water-type).

2k passes on the job anyways; it's a volunteer position, and he has a lot of student debt to get cleared. (Question by Kyleisalive)
10. After trying his hand at several occupations, 2k decides that a job at Sherwood Forest Golf Club in North Carolina is the one for him. Which of the following is true of this golf club, making it perfect for 2k?

Answer: They use llamas as golf caddies

As pack animals, llamas seemed the obvious choice for the caddies at the Sherwood Forest Golf Club. While their ability to lug numerous clubs from hole to hole cannot be brought into question, it is perhaps best not to rely on the llama's advice on whether to use a 5-iron or a putter. This quirky trait of the Sherwood Forest Golf Club has attracted media attention and their website offers visitors the chance to book llama caddies.

2k does not agree with Mark Twain that golf is a "good walk spoiled" and feels he'll fit in well in his new position. (Question by doublemm).
