Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. With all the excitement of leaving on an around the world holiday we still took the time to make a visit to our favourite place to make sure we know the best place is home. We live in the most southern state of mainland Australia and this place is the most southern part of that state. Where is it?

Answer: Wilsons Promontory

Wilsons Promontory is a great national park located in Victoria. It is 125,000 acres of amazing land, the southernmost of all of Australia's mainland. It has it all, beautiful pristine beaches, including one that squeaks, rivers, rainforests, coupled with abundant wildlife. You can met up close kangaroos, emu, wombats and a diverse selection of bird life. A magical place that all Victorians love and just cannot get enough of.
2. First stop is Los Angeles. Having not travelled for more than 20 years the first thing we notice is that everything is computerised. Finger prints, eye prints and the like. Then of course it was eTickets and eVisa and "e" everything. A bit scary. We finally got to our hotel and went off in search of Mickey. Where did we find him?

Answer: Disneyland

Disneyland (now known as Disneyland Park) is, of course, the highlight of going to Los Angeles. Not for us, we did not even go in just went on the boulevard before the entrance of the park. Seriously my husband has not forgiven me. Anyway Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955 and of course was the first one.
3. Off to Canada. Well it was the first time that it snowed in April for some 30 odd years. First we had a hire car, had to drive on the other side of the road, and deal with snow ... yes it was getting interesting. We picked up our hire car in this major city, before journeying to Niagara Falls. What city is it?

Answer: Toronto

Toronto is the capital of Ontario. It is a vibrant city that offers a lot to a tourist and is a gateway to many other great sites in Ontario, such as the Niagara Falls, Hamilton, the Great Lakes and many interesting smaller cities. Toronto is known for its skyscrapers especially the CN Tower. Definitely one of the places to include in your bucket list.
4. After leaving Canada we arrived where all Australian travellers go, yes that's right, London. We had a few days there before driving around the United Kingdom in a camper van. This is an iconic building. What is it?

Answer: St Paul's Cathedral

There is so much to see in London, from the Thames River, to all the historical buildings such as the Tower of London, Westminster, Trafalgar Square and the list goes on. St Paul's Cathedral is one must-see in London. It is considered the mother church of the London diocese, posed upon Ludgate Hill, the highest point of the City of London. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London. Totally impressive; be prepared for long queues to gain entry, but well worth it.
5. This theatre, located in Cornwall, near Land's End, was the inspiration of one woman, and definitely a highlight of the trip. It is?

Answer: Minack Theatre

Minack Theatre was created by Rowena Cade in Cornwall, England. Of the many things on my bucket list, this was one of them. It is an amazing work of perseverance by a woman with a vision to have an outdoor theatre in a remote place in the middle of nowhere. This is a must see on anyone's tour of southern England.
6. Off to Wales to see a castle. Well I found out that there are many castles in Wales, the most of any country. Prince Charles may be very fond of this one. Which one is it?

Answer: Caernarfon Castle

In 1969 the castle of Caernarfon held the investiture of the Prince of Wales, Charles.
We happened upon the castle more or less by accident and were amazed that the castle's fortress seemed to be intact. The castle is intimidating in its stance and presence. Created by King Edward I it has stood the test of time and would be worthy of any heritage status. From a tourist's point of view, you can experience the battlements, see the museum, see the wonder of Prince Charles' investiture, gaze across the wonders of Wales and immerse yourself in the architecture of a castle.
7. Scotland was just amazing. Castles, kilts, whisky, tartan, bagpipes and everything you can ever want in any land. Beautiful scenery, waterfalls, rivers, mountains, and the whole ambit. With all this happening I just wanted to know - what is Scotland's national animal?

Answer: Unicorn

Until I went to Scotland I did not realise the national animal of Scotland was the unicorn. I knew that their coat of arms and other national emblems had the unicorn but not the national animal. Wow. The legend of the unicorn became entangled with the history and belief of what Scotland is about.

The unicorn symbolises purity and power. Since James II the unicorn has been a symbol of Scotland.
8. We were pretty excited to go to Ireland, the home of dancing, drinking, singing and fighting. Lots of beautiful scenery. But believe it or not my hubby thought this place was the highlight for him in Ireland. Where is it?

Answer: Bunratty Castle

Bunratty Castle is a very touristy place but it has everything that you would want. The Castle is an authentic medieval castle and the Folk Park around it has been made to reflect a 19th century village that would be around such as place.

Bunratty Castle was built in 1425 and its current restoration started in 1954 and still continues. It has authentic furnishings, tapestries, and works of art, to make sure that you see as close as possible to the original. The Folk Park is touristy but it makes sure you enjoy the sights, sounds tastes, scents, of this era.
9. Off to East Asia. Interested in the culture and especially interested in tasting the different cuisine. Our first stop was all lights and actions. A light fest. Hard to come to grips with and so different from anything we had seen before. Tokyo was amazing, busy, crowded, lights and action, mind blowing. We did manage to see, in Shinjuko, this museum. What is its attractions?

Answer: Samurai

Japan, what can you say, a country of many different experiences. A highlight on our short trip was a visit to the Samurai Museum in Shinjuko. Japan history was ruled by an Emperor and of course its nobility. This system continued for at least 700 years.

After this period, a number of samurai-led governments ruled over Japan for approximately another 700 years. The museum gives a wonderful insight of the different periods, their weapons, their traditions and of course their history. For me, a must see on a trip to Tokyo.
10. Last stop Singapore. Wow what an amazing city. The cleanest city I have ever seen. It is a delight. Singapore is a small country and everything is at your fingertips (or a taxi drive away). So much to see, from gardens (breathtaking), markets (bargains), lights and action, food and so much more. Not only that you can spend time just chilling out at this most unlikely place (or attached to it). Where is it?

Answer: Singapore Changi Airport

Jewel Shopping Centre at Changi Airport is pretty impressive. It has a great waterfall and gardens that are at the centre of the complex. It has 10-floor retail, from the local artistry to top of the range boutiques, lots of food available from top class restaurants to cafes and takeaways.

The indoor gardens and seating areas are great for those with weary legs. For those with a late flight out of Singapore there is heaps to do to while away the time.
