Answer: Thasos

The name Santorini is a contraction of the name Santa Irini (Saint Irene). In antiquity the island was known as Kalliste (the most beautiful), Strongyle (the round one) due to its shape and later was also known as Thera. The giant caldera was created when the volcano erupted in the Minoan period between 1642 and 1530 BC. Santorini is very famous for its breathtaking sunsets.

Thasos is the northernmost island in the Aegean.
2. This little island is part of the western Cyclades and it's known as the "iron island". What is the actual name of the island that sounds like a typeface?

Answer: Serifos

Serifos is called the "iron island" due to the large iron deposits in its subsoil. The island's area is about 73 square kilometers. The highest peak of the island is 583 meters. The island has numerous small and large bays and it is perfect for swimming and underwater sports.

Answer: Cyclades

Cyclades stems from the Greek work for circle as the islands in this group were encircling the island of Delos. Amorgos covers an area of 123 square kilometers and its highest elevation is 823 meters. The shape of the island is thin and long and the capital is called Hora where one can visit the tower of Gavra. Amorgos played host for the 1988 film "The Big Blue".

According to mythology Aphrodite was born near the island and the west wind blew the shell, which she was in, to Cyprus. The island has an area of 280 square kilometers which places it in the top 20 Greek islands by size. The highest elevation is 504 meters. The castle in the capital of the island is one of the main places to visit.

Answer: Paros

Paros has an area of 196 square kilometers with the highest elevation being 724 meters. The island is shaped like a pear and has lots of beaches such as Kolymbithres, Parasporos, Molos and Monastiri. Panagia Ekatontapiliani is dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Panagia) with Ekatontapiliani meaning having 100 doors.

The island is the fourth largest by area in Greece covering an area of 1401 square kilometers. The highest elevation is Mount Attavyros that stands at 1215 meters. There are lots of places to visit including the ancient city of Lindos and the valley of the butterflies. The medieval town of Rhodes is also something that the visitor must visit. The Greek word for rose is "rodon".

Naxos covers an area of 430 square kilometers with Mount Zeus its highest elevation at 1003 meters. The island has a lot of Venetian mansions and the castle in the capital city dates back to the 13th century. Naxian marble was famed in ancient times and it is still quarried today.

Skiathos is a very small island with an area of 61 square kilometers. It is a hilly island with the highest peak, Stavros, standing at 433 meters. The island has beautiful pine forests especially in the eastern part and lovely beaches some of which are Koukounaries, Lalaria, Banana and Kanapitsa.

Zakinthos, Kefalonia and Lefkada are part of the Ionian Islands. The photograph is called "Skiathos".
