The Snake River flows north along the NE Oregon border through Hells Canyon recreation area, and then arcs around to the SW into the Columbia River in central Washington state.
2. Name the river in the State of Oregon that flows from south to north through the cities of Eugene, Salem and Portland.

Answer: Willamette River

The Willamette River's source is in the Central Oregon Cascades, and flows north emptying into the Columbia River just north of Portland.

Mt. Mazama exploded spreading ash over much of southern Oregon. The explosion left a large crater which gradually filled to form Crater Lake, which is now Oregon's only National Park.

Answer: The US and Great Britain negotiated a treaty whereby the US would take control of territory below the 49th parallel.

While in the late 18th century several countries including Spain, Russia, France, Great Britain, and later the United states had claims to the Oregon Country, by the 1840s only Great Britain and the United States still had claims. Great Britain and the United States signed the Oregon Treaty in 1846 which gave all territory in this region below the 49th parallel to the United States with the exception of Vancouver Island. North of the 49th parallel was kept by Britain and called British Columbia and eventually became a part of Canada.
