Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From where did the British troops arrive at Lexington Green?

Answer: From Charles River

The British troops came to Lexington Green from Boston Harbor, thinking that the colonists would not see them, but they were very wrong: the colonists saw them long before they arrived giving John Hancock and Samuel Adams time to escape.
2. What did Paul Revere say as he rode through Lexington Green?

Answer: "The Regulars are coming, the Regulars are coming!"

Everyone says that he said "The British are coming! The British are coming!" but he didn't because he and many others were British and they refered to the British troops as "The Regulars".
3. What was the warning that told townspeople that the British were coming by sea?

Answer: Two lanterns in the belfry of the Old North Church

The patriots already knew that the British planned to attack Lexington Green and Concord. They had agreed that the warning of the approach of the British was to put two lanterns in the belfry of the church if the British came by sea, and one lantern if they approached by land.
4. What was the name of the doctor that warned Paul Revere that the British were coming?

Answer: Dr. Joseph Warren

He more than likely had someone on the inside of the British troops to inform him. Many historians believe it may have been the British General's wife.
5. Who are "Minutemen"?

Answer: Men who were ready to fight at a minute's notice

They were not paid but were very loyal. 75 Minutemen were waiting for British troops when they arrived at Lexington Green. Then when the British troops retreated to Boston after burning supplies in Concord hundreds of Minutemen, townspeople and farmers followed the troops, killing 73 British soldiers and wounding 174 british soldiers.
