Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you placed up to seven tiles on the board, what is the most number of points you can add for the Z?

Answer: 560

If you already have an arrangement such as __MATE___LI_IN_, on a row of three triple word scores, you can add letters to make DEMATERIALIZING. The Z will be on a double letter, so that's 20 points. You will have three triple word scores, which will multiply your score of 20 by 27. 27 times 20 is 540. You can get 540 points horizontally. Vertically, there can already be the word ETA, spelling vertically from directly under the Z. Adding the Z would make ZETA, which would reuse the double Z and make 20 points vertically. 20+540=560. You can make a total of 560 points with a single Z!
2. What is the least number of points you can get with a bingo?

Answer: 56

Take an eight letter word with all 1 pt letters, such as SLATTERN. Use two blanks, and put them on any double or triple letter scores. It is possible to arrange it so that the word doesn't crisscross with any double word scores. You can make a 7-letter word like that, but that would result in making two different words.
3. What is the most number of points you can earn for the single word, "QUACKERS?"

Answer: 302

If there is already an E on the bottom row, you can add seven letters to make QUACKERS. The K can be on a double letter score, which would give it a tile value of 10. 10 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 10 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 28. 28 times both triple word scores is 252. Add 50 points for using all tiles and get 302.
4. What is the most number of points you can earn with a single three-letter word? You cannot make other words, you can only make one word.

Answer: 57

The three letter word with the most tile value is ZAX, which totals 19 points. The most you can do with a three letter word is put it on a single triple word score. 19 * 3 = 57.
5. What is the least number of points you can earn with an eight-letter word?

Answer: 6

If there is already the word AT on the board, you can add letters to make the word SLATTERN and use two blanks. Since you are only putting down 6 letters, you do not get 50 points.
6. If you can only use s's, i's, z's, and e's, what would be the highest scoring word you can make? Letters are unlimited.

Answer: seizes

The word SEIZES has a total tile value of 15 points.
7. How many words are there that only contain vowels?

Answer: 5

AA, AE, AI, EAU, and OE.
8. How many two-letter words are there that contain the letter M?

Answer: 12

AM, EM, HM, MA, ME, MI, MM, MO, MU, MY, OM, and UM. Some of these may not be acceptable in all dictionaries.
9. How many three-letter words have V in the middle?

Answer: 6

OVA, AVO, IVY, AVA, EVE, and AVE. There may be more in other dictionaries, but these are the only six in the Scrabble Dictionary 3rd Edition.
10. What is the most number of points you can get for the single word, "GIGGING," if you don't use any multipliers?

Answer: 59

There are only three G's, so one of the g's would have to be a blank.
2 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 0 = 9. 9 + 50 = 59.
