Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On your field during your standby phase, you have: 3 White Magician Pikerus, 2 Cure Mermaids, 3 Solemn Wishes, and 2 Spell Absorptions. How many life points did you gain since the turn started?

Answer: 9100

Each White Magician Pikeru will give you 400 points for each monster (the Pikerus and the Mermaids) on your side of the field (5*400=2000 each). Each Cure Mermaid will give you 800 points. Each Solemn Wishes will give you 500. The Spell Absorptions will give you no points. Adding these up, you get (2000*3)+(800*2)+(500*3)=9100 points.
2. Your opponent has Lord of Dragons and Blue Eyes White Dragon on the field. In addition, they have played DNA Surgery, transforming all monsters on the field into dragons. Which of the following cards are you allowed to play against your opponent?

Answer: Raigeki

In this case, Lord of Dragons's special ability prevents you from targeting any dragons with an effect. Tribute to the Doomed targets any monster and destroys it. Snatch Steal targets any enemy monster and takes control of it. Raigeki destroys all enemy monsters; since it does not actually target any monsters but rather effects all enemy monsters, it can still be used.
3. Which of the following monsters can destroy Spirit Reaper?

Answer: Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke

Spirit Reaper's ability makes it so that Spirit Reaper can not be destroyed in battle. However, Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke's ability allows it to automatically destroy any face-up monster in defense mode that it happens to attack, regardless of attack and defense points.
4. Your opponent has Jinzo and Spell Canceller on the field, and no cards in their hand. You have 500 life points left, no cards on the field, and no cards in your hand. Which of the following cards can you draw during your draw phase that can give you a shot at extending the duel past your opponent's next turn?

Answer: all of these

Black Luster Soldier: Envoy of the beginning has 3000 attack points, can be summoned by removing 1 Light monster and 1 Dark monster from play, and can destroy both enemies in battle. Penguin Soldier can return both enemies to your opponent's hand. Nimble Momonga can summon two more Momongas from your deck to the field face-down and in defense mode, when attacked and destroyed.
5. Your opponent has Thousand Eyes Restrict on the field. You summon your own Thousand Eyes Restrict. What can now happen?

Answer: neither can attack

Thousand Eyes Restrict's ability states that no other monster can change position or attack. Since two are on the field at the same time, each one is preventing the other one from changing position or attacking.
6. Polymerization can be used to fuse Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest into what?

Answer: Sanwitch

Sanwitch (obviously a play on names and words), has 2100 attack points and 1800 defense points, both the sums of the respective points of Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest. Sanwitch does not have a special ability, but can be good to play anyway; if Sangan and Witch are on the field when you use them, you can add monsters from your deck to your hand.
7. You have 4 cards left in your deck. You flip and activate Cyber Jar. Do you lose the duel for not having at least 5 cards in your deck?

Answer: No

Cyber Jar requires you to pick up (NOT draw) five cards from your deck; you only lose via the "decking" rule when you must draw from your deck but can not. Since Cyber Jar does not have you draw, you (in this case) would just pick up the four cards in your deck. (However, you would still have to win on the same turn, or you would automatically lose next turn.)
8. You have 10,000 life points, no cards on the field, and 1 Kuriboh in your hand. You opponent has on the field: Blue Eyes White Dragon, Buster Blader, Dark Magician, and Dark Paladin. To retain as many life points as possible, which enemy's attack should you use Kuriboh to block?

Answer: Dark Paladin

Kuriboh allows you to negate all damage to your life points from one attack by sending it from your hand to the graveyard following the attack. To start out, Dark Magician has 2500 attack points, Buster Blader has 2600, Dark Paladin has 2900, and Blue Eyes White Dragon has 3000.

However, Dark Paladin's ability gives it 500 extra attack points for every dragon on the field and in the graveyard; thanks to Blue Eyes White Dragon, Dark Paladin would have 3400 attack points, and thus would be the best attack to block.
9. You have Gearfried the Iron Knight on the field, while your opponent has Red Eyes Black Dragon on the field. Your opponent has 250 life points left. Which of the following cards will allow you to win the duel?

Answer: Black Pendant

Gearfried has 1800 attack points while Red Eyes has 2400. Since Gearfried's ability destroys and card equipped to it, none of the above equip spells will boost Gearfried's power for an attack. However, Black Pendant's second ability deals 500 points of damage to your opponent's life points whenever it goes from the field to the graveyard. You could thus equip Black Pendant to Gearfried the Iron Knight, let it be destroyed, and then let its secondary ability win you the duel.
10. How many effects are there that let you automatically win a duel (before the expansion packs based on "Yu-gi-oh GX")?

Answer: 3

The first way to win automatically is by the effect of Exodia the Forbidden One; if you have Exodia the Forbidden One, Left Leg of the Forbidden One, Right Leg of the Forbidden One, Left Arm of the Forbidden One, and Right Arm of the Forbidden One in your hand at the same time, then you win.

The second way is by the effect of Destiny Board; once during the end of each of your opponent's turns, you can play Spirit Message I, Spirit Message N, Spirit Message A, or Spirit Message L from your hand or deck. If you spell out "FINAL" in order in this manner (Destiny Board counts as F), you win.

The third way is by the effect of Final Countdown; you must pay 2000 life points to activate this spell card, but you win if 20 turns pass by after you activate it.
