4. In the United States, as well as many other countries, it is illegal to buy and sell most art objects made of what substance?

Answer: Ivory

Every year, tens of thousands of elephants are killed by poachers for their tusks. In order to combat the trade in illegally poached ivory, the U.S. has made it illegal to import elephant ivory, and to sell objects made of ivory across state lines. An exception is made for antiques over 100 years old, and for native Inuit tribes who make and sell objects from walrus ivory.

In 2013, the federal government seized and crushed six tons of illegally imported ivory.

7. When a person has consumed so much alcohol that an otherwise unattractive person appears extremely attractive, from what (colloquially) is one suffering?

Answer: beer goggles

Dr Rebecca Monk reported on research conducted at Edge Hill University in Lancashire, England, in 2020. 80 test subjects were given alcohol and it was demonstrated that intoxicated people found a much higher percentage of photographs of others attractive than did sober subjects. Conclusion: beer goggles are real.

The effect of alcohol on one's visual perception of potential sexual partners has long been understood by the writers of country music. Mickey Gilley performed Baker Knight's song "Don't the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time" in 1976.

9. Fingers-crossed you will be able to answer this: Which adverb was the subject of some debate when Associated Press removed it from its banned list in 2012?

Answer: Hopefully

There are still those grammarians who insist that to say "hopefully we will have good weather on our holidays" is wrong. They say it does not mean the same as "I hope we will have good weather..." or "he was looking forward hopefully to good weather." The use of "hopefully" in the sense of the first quotation had long been banned by AP's Stylebook.

The change caused a great deal of debate between those on both sides. The Washington Post attracted more than 600 online comments when it reported the AP change. "We feel we just can't hold back the tide," David Minthorn, AP's deputy standards editor said.

10. Which playground game can also mean gibberish or be a record released by the manager of the Sex Pistols?

Answer: Double Dutch

If something makes no sense, it can be described as Double Dutch, according to the "Cambridge Online Dictionary". A record, "Double Dutch", was released in 1983 by Malcolm McLaren, less known as an artist than as manager and promoter of the infamous Sex Pistols.

The game involves at least three people - two to turn the (long) skipping ropes in opposite directions, and at least one to jump them, often involving intricate footwork and/or hip hop moves. It was supposedly introduced to the US by Dutch immigrants.

The wrong answers are also playground games.
