Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is a group of bureaucrats? (It's a shoe-in)

Answer: A Shuffle

Bureaucrats are government employees who carry out - or do not carry out - various administrative functions of governmental departments. Today most of these same organisations and their bureaucrats have become rather bogged down with massive amounts of sometimes unnecessary, irrelevant and ridiculous regulations.

A classic example of this in this country is the time we had to apply for tax file numbers. Filling out reams of paperwork to do so from the relevant government department, we were eventually told that the numbers couldn't be issued until we provided copies of our birth certificates. On subsequently filling out reams of paperwork to obtain these birth certificates from another government department, we were then eventually informed that birth certificates couldn't be provided until we had first provided our tax file numbers.
2. What administrative term is applied to a group of civil servants?

Answer: A File

Civil servants bear much the same function as bureaucrats, that of staff members involved in public administration. This term does not include the armed services.
3. What is a group of meteorologists? (Raindrops are falling on my head la la la)

Answer: A Shower

Meteorologists are scientists who study the atmosphere. It is a very old discipline stretching back over centuries with an impressive array of knowledge gleaned by members who have sometimes had but the most minimal of equipment to help in their work. The great Aristotle (384-322 BC) is considered the father of this science.
4. What is a group of grandparents? (Down through the ages)

Answer: A Wisdom

Grandparents are the ever so delightful parents of one's father or mother. While it is not necessarily true that they are full of wisdom, it can be stated with a degree of accuracy that they do contain, for the most part, a wealth of experience. They may not know (or care about) the Theorem of Pythagoras, or even how to spell it, but their life's experience should not be disregarded when it comes to matters involving the human condition.
5. What physiological term is applied to a group of beards?

Answer: A Chin

This comical collective term pretty well says it all. Beards consist of hair on faces around the chin area. Fortunately most beards occur on men instead of women. I do believe, though it may not be true, that the reason for this is that women find it hard to apply lipstick if they have beards.

The study of beards is called pogonology. Who on earth would want to study beards? Throughout the history of mankind, beards have been associated with manliness, virility and wisdom. Oh blah, blah, blah, as if.

Here's something interesting though: Ancient Egyptians sometimes attached false beards to their cows. Now that's enough to make any self-respecting girl give a moo or two.
6. What is a thoughtful term for a group of philosophers?

Answer: A Ponder

Philosophy is the study of concepts such as existence, thought, knowledge and so forth. It can be quite interesting, but also, unless you've had several cups of coffee to clear your head, extremely confusing. A reading of same is also highly recommended if you require a good night's sleep. I think, therefore I play trivia.
7. What numerical term is applied to a group of mathematicians?

Answer: A Number

Mathematics is the study of numbers. Many aspects are covered in this field and include number structure, patterns, change, relationships and so forth. If you were a philosophical mathematician, you could even argue whether numbers exist at all, or whether they have been created by mankind. Oh dear, I feel another long sleep coming on.
8. What is a group of cooks? Hurry up, I'm hungry.

Answer: A Hastiness

Er, what is some interesting information about cooks? Let me see now. Cooks come in various shapes and sizes and they work in the field of food preparation. The patron saint of these worthy beings is one Saint Lawrence, who lived in the third century.

He was executed by being burned at the stake (no, not steak). This could possibly be a leg pull, and I promise you I didn't make it up, but it's recorded that as he was dying he cried out, "I'm roasted on this side. If you want me well done, it's time to turn me over".
9. This shouldn't weigh too much on your minds. What is a group of drunks?

Answer: A Load

Alcohol intoxication occurs when there is an overload of grog in one's blood. Symptoms of being in a state of drunkenness include flushed faces, bloodshot eyeballs, less inhibitions than normal, and over the top behaviour. In Australia this list of symptoms also includes: If you're a woman, a belief that you're simply irresistible in spite of the lipstick applied all over your teeth, and the piece of toilet paper usually stuck to your shoe. And, if you're a man, a belief that you're a real Casanova in spite of the fact that you have drool on your chin, and are too anaesthetised to perform the simple act of standing up, let alone anything else.
10. Go straight to the heart of the matter and name a group of physicists?

Answer: A Nucleus

Physics includes the study of matter, motion, energy, force and space. With applied physics, this means that it really doesn't matter if you don't have the energy to force yourself to move out of the space in front of your computer while you play trivia.
