Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm going to give you a clue to a word which will be the answer to question one. That answer will create a two word phrase or a compound word with the word "higher". The answer to question two will create a two word phrase or compound word with the answer to question 1 but not necessarily a three word phrase with "higher" and the answer to question 1. Example: Let's say the word was 'peach'. Question 1 would have the clue "Past tense for a word meaning 'something to add taste'" with the answer being "flavored" which when put with the word 'peach' makes 'peach flavored'. Note: The answer will be only one word, not both words. Let's get started. Fill in the Blank: Something good or high grade has good ___.

Answer: Quality

Quality is the measure of how good something is. If something is low quality it is not very good. If something is high quality it is good.

If one thing is lower quality than something else it is not as good as the other one.

If something is higher quality than something else it is better than the thing it is being compared to.

Example: One CD player may be higher quality than another because the speakers are both good while the other one's speakers are a little fuzzy.

The one with good speakers is high quality while the one with fuzzy speakers is low quality.
2. Complete the sentence: A person of authority is in ___

Answer: Control

Control is the power over an operation. If you have control over an airplane than you are driving it correctly. If it is out of control than the plane may be doing something it's not supposed to and you don't have control over it.

Companies that produce different products have a department called quality control. Quality control is the part of a company that makes sure that their product maintains its quality. Companies have a quality control team that inspect their products to make sure that everything is at the minimum quality required by the company or better. If companies didn't have this, their products could lose their quality without the company knowing it.
3. What do we call a walled-in section of a house?

Answer: Room

Different rooms in a house include bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens and dining rooms.

Companies have a room called the control room. A control room is the room that contains the controls to all parts of an operation or corporation. In a store it can contain the monitors to the security cameras which the guards watch to make sure everything is going OK in the store. In a music recording studio it contains the sound board which controls the volume of the instrument(s) being recorded.
4. A small item used to unlock something is called what?

Answer: Key

Locks and keys are used for a lot of things. Doors, safes, filing cabinets and gates, among others, have locks and keys used for security.

A room key is a key that opens a hotel room. People who rent hotel rooms keep their room keys with them so they can get into their room at all times. Some hotels have a card that serves as the room key. The doors have a device on them that when you stick the card into the slot and pull it out automatically unlocks a door.

Some locks, such as combination locks, don't require a key. You just turn a dial until you get to the combination of numbers that allows the lock to come open.
5. Finish the sentence: A small circular piece of jewelry worn on a finger is called a ___.

Answer: Ring

Rings are worn to signify several things including marriage, engagement, purity, friendship, a promise between a couple in a relationship, and other things.

6. What's another title for a person of authority, the leader of an operation, or a boss?

7. Fill the gap: In mathematics the ___ of a rectangular box can be found using the formula length x width x height.

Answer: Volume

In mathematics, the volume of a cube or cylinder is the measure of the entire inside of the container from top to bottom, left to right, front to back.

Volume is also the measure of how loud a sound is. In a band the volume of an instrument is how loud it is. The master volume is the volume of all of the instruments on a CD or in a concert. It doesn't control each one individually, just all of them together.
8. What is a lever controlled with your foot or what you use to make a bicycle move?

Answer: Pedal

Pedals are used for a lot of things. On a bicycle you push the pedals forward with your feet and it makes the bicycle move.

In a band they use a pedal to control the volume of an instrument by the player of that instrument. Guitarists can use it to turn up their guitars for a solo and then turn it back down afterwards without worrying about getting to the knob on the guitar while playing. They also have distortion pedals that add distortion to the sound of the guitar.
9. What's a cardboard container of various sizes and uses?

Answer: Box

Boxes have a lot of uses. You can put things in them to ship them somewhere else or store them.

A pedal box is a box used to carry pedals that control different sound on a guitar. Different kinds of pedals in a pedal box include distortion pedals, delay pedals and wah-wah pedals among others. It makes setting up easier because you don't have to set up each one individually.
10. What we call the part of something that is on the side opposite the bottom?

Answer: top

There was a program called 'box tops' which put a cut out picture on the tops of boxes of various foods. People would cut out the picture and then send them to their local school and the school would send it to General Mills and would get some money in return for them. It helped cover the costs of school supplies and utility bills.
