When Meggie was little, she used to climb up on a box to read the spindly, old-fashioned lettering until she knew it by heart.

She likes them because they press well between the pages of a book, and because you can stamp a star-shaped pattern with the seed capsules. When Mo makes Meggie's book box, he paints it a bright, poppy red.
