Answer: She had been hit on the head with a poker.

The room had been ransacked to make the murder look like a burglary. There was only one set of finger prints on the poker - those belonging to Jacko Argyle.
2. Where was Arthur Calgary when the case was on trial?

Answer: He was in Antarctica on an expedition.

Arthur Calgary was in Antarctica as part of the Hayes Bentley Expedition. He had returned to England only a few weeks ago. As a result he hadn't heard anything about the trial and didn't know that he was an important witness.
3. What was the former name of Sunny Point?

Answer: Viper's Point

When Mrs. Argyle decided to buy the house and live there, she had the name changed to Sunny Point.
4. How did Jacko Argyle die?

Answer: He died of pneumonia while in prison.

Jacko Argyle thought he had a perfect alibi for the time during which the murder was committed. Unfortunately for him, Arthur Calgary had had an accident and was unable to remember the events of that evening.
