Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gremio, Tranio, Biondello, and Vincentio are all characters in which Shakespearian play?

Answer: The Taming of the Shrew

Gremio was a suitor to the fair Bianca, sister of the shrewish Katherina.
Tranio and Biondello were servants to Lucentio, another of Bianca's suitors.
Vincentio, an old gentleman of Pisa, also crops up in "Measure for Measure"
2. Which of Bill Shakespeare's plays includes the characters Osric, Voltimand, Cornelius, and Guildenstern?

Answer: Hamlet

All four characters are "Courtiers" at Elsinore. Osric is the gaudy, gauzy waterfly whilst Guildenstern (along with his pal, Rosencrantz) is a rather more down-to-earth university chum of Hamlet.
3. Brabantio, Gratiano, Lodovico, and Bianca all play a part in which of Shakespeare's plays?

Answer: Othello

Brabantio is a high-ranking senator in Venice. Gratiano is his brother; Lodovico, his kinsman. Bianca (not the Shrew's sister!) is the mistress of Othello's lieutenant, Cassio.
4. Which Shakespearian play includes Stephano, Adrian, Francisco, and Gonzalo amongst its characters?

Answer: The Tempest

Stephano is the drunken butler who teams up with the monster, Caliban. Adrian and Fransisco are shipwrecked Lords and Gonzalo is a deliciously wise and honest Counsellor.
5. Caithness, Angus, Ross, and Lennox are all characters in which play by Shakespeare?

Answer: Macbeth

Noblemen of Scotland all.

Surely nobody would have guessed "Anthony and Cleopatra" for this one . . . ?
6. The characters Alexas, Mardian, Seleucus, and Diomedes are all in which Shakespearian play?

Answer: Anthony and Cleopatra

All four are attendants to Cleopatra . . . despite their names being derived from all four corners of the (then) known world!
7. Which of William Shakespeare's plays includes the characters Bardolph, John Rugby, Doctor Caius, and Peter Simple?

Answer: The Merry Wives of Windsor

Bardolph appears in all four plays; the others are purely Windsor!
8. Escalus, Sampson, Gregory, and Friar John are all characters in which play by Shakespeare?

Answer: Romeo and Juliet

Escalus is the Prince of Verona ("where we lay our scene"), Sampson and Gregory are servants to Juliet's father and Friar John has a lot to answer for . . .
9. Which single Shakespearian play includes the characters of Lucius, Quintius, Martius, and Mutius?

Answer: Titus Andronicus

All four are the sons of Titus Andronicus. It is generally believed that Shakespeare only wrote part of this bloody drama.
10. In which play by Shakespeare would you find the characters Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, and Mustardseed?

Answer: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Fairies all!

Thank you for taking this Shakespearian romp!
