Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "...Mercutio's soul is but a little way above our heads, staying for ____ to keep him company."

Answer: Thine

This is the final part of the fight scene in Act 3 Scene 1. Romeo has just heard that Mercutio died and now he's going to kill Tybalt. This is a very powerful scene, or I think so at least...
-----
"Now, Tybalt, take the 'villain' back again
That late thou gavest me; for Mercutio's soul
Is but a little way above our heads,
Staying for thine to keep him company.
Either thou or I, or both, must go with him."
2. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "_______ is enanmour'd of thy parts, and thou art wedded to calamity"

Answer: Affliction

It's 'Affliction'! This is the first part of Act 3 Scene 3 (my second favourite scene), and Romeo has gone to Friar Laurence to find out his fate for killing Tybalt.
-----
"Romeo, come forth; come forth, thou fearful man.
Affliction is enanmour'd of thy parts,
And thou art wedded to calamity."
3. What is Romeo's response to Friar Laurence when he tells him, "O, then I see that madmen have no ears."

Answer: How should they, when that wise men have no eyes?

Again, we're still in Act 3 Scene 3, and Romeo and Friar Laurence are bickering about Romeo's situation. Romeo is angry and miserable and won't see that things will be ok. He thinks banishment is a fate worse than death. What a baby!
-----
Friar.
"O, then I see that madmen have no ears."

Romeo.
"How should they, when that wise men have no eyes?"

Friar.
"Let me dispute with thee of thy estate."

Romeo.
"Thou canst not speak of that thou dost not feel".
4. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "Thy tears are _______"

Answer: Womanish

This is the final quote from Act 3 Scene 3, and this is my favourite speech from Friar Laurence. Romeo has just tried to kill himself and the Friar is mad about this, and starts to have a go at Romeo! This religious man is not so patient with Romeo!
-----
"Hold thy desperate hand:
Art thou a man? thy form cries out thou art;
Thy tears are womanish; thy wild acts denote
The unreasonable fury of a beast;
Unseemly woman in a seeming man!
Or ill-beseeming beast in seeming both!
Thou hast amaz'd me: by my holy order,
I thought thy disposition better temper'd."
5. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "O, now be gone; more _____ and _____ it grows." (Same word repeated!)

Answer: Light

This is the end of Romeo and Juliet's first 'full' encounter in Act 3 Scene 5. Juliet is urging Romeo to leave before they catch him.
-----
Juliet
"...O, now be gone; more light and light it grows."

Romeo.
"More light and light,--more dark and dark our woes!"
6. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "No warmth, no ______, shall testify thou livest"

Answer: Breath

Ah, Friar Laurence here is describing the effects of the potion Juliet will drink, and it's taken from Act 4 Scene 1. Shame it's not scientifically possible, because it's a great excuse for getting out of something you don't want to do, like marrying a wealthy Count!
-----
"Take thou this vial, being then in bed,
And this distilled liquor drink thou off:
When, presently, through all thy veins shall run
A cold and drowsy humour; for no pulse
Shall keep his native progress, but surcease:
No warmth, no breath, shall testify thou livest".
7. What is the line that the Nurse repeats when she finds out Juliet is dead? "O ________ day!"

Answer: Lamentable

Yep, it's lamentable alright! It's in Act 4 Scene 5 when they discover the apparently dead body of Juliet. Juliet really didn't want to marry Paris did she? What a cruel trick to play on the people that love you!
8. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "O true apothecary! Thy drugs are _______"

Answer: Quick

Oh no! Romeo dies! This line is from Act 4 Scene 8. Romeo has just taken the vial of poison from the Apothecary because he sees his one true love dead. Awww, too bad she was alive! They could have lived happily ever after!
-----
"Here's to my love! [Drinks.]--O true apothecary!
Thy drugs are quick.--Thus with a kiss I die."
9. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "Yea, noise? Then I'll be brief. O _____ dagger!

Answer: Happy

Oh no, now Juliet dies! Still in Act 4 Scene 8, Juliet sees Romeo dead and finds a dagger to stab herself. Tragic!
-----
Juliet.
"Yea, noise?--Then I'll be brief.--O happy dagger!
[Snatching Romeo's dagger.]
This is thy sheath [stabs herself]; there rest, and let me die."

In some versions, this action takes place in Act V, rather than Act IV.
10. Fill in the missing words from 'Romeo and Juliet'. "A _______ peace this morning with it brings; The sun for sorrow will not show his head."

Answer: Glooming

We're at the end of 'Romeo and Juliet' now, the final lines as spoken by the Prince, the final act, the final scene. Shakespeare's words will live on forever, they are classic and beautiful. If you don't know the story of these star-cross'd lovers, then I urge you to read it. It truely is one of his greatest works.
-----
"A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun for sorrow will not show his head.
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished;
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo."
-----
I hope you enjoyed the final part of my 'Romeo and Juliet' quizzes! Thank you for playing!
