Maximillian Schell was born in Austria in 1930. He is the godfather of Angelina Jolie. Colonel Mopani Theron was a friend of Nonnie's parents, who taught Nonnie about shooting and helped her appreciate the evils of poaching.

Answer: Laurens Van der Post

Laurens Van der Post was born in southern Africa in 1906. He wrote descriptively about the Kalahari and its inhabitants. Other novels he wrote include 'A Story Like The Wind', 'The Lost World Of The Kalahari' and 'A Walk With A White Bushman'. He was awarded the C.B.E. in 1981 and died in 1996.
3. Where were Nonnie, Harry and Xhabbo when the poachers came to kill Nonnie's parents?

Xhabbo had been attacked by a leopard, and was injured. Nonnie had gone out in the night and discovered him, and Harry had noticed her leave and followed. Xhabbo, who could see the future, felt that there was danger ahead, and urged the others to stay in the cave overnight, so they would be safe.

Nonnie told Harry that they had a long way to go, but he was shocked when he discovered that they had to walk two thousand miles across the Kalahari. Xhabbo told them 'Wind can do it, we can do it' and so they set off for Karlstown.

Once the poachers realized that Nonnie and Harry were missing from the house at the time of the killings, they went out to look for them. Knowing that they would need to cover their tracks, Xhabbo spoke to the elephants, asking for their help. The elephants then followed the three fugitives, effectively covering their tracks.

Answer: John Ricketts

John Ricketts had been a friend of Nonnie's parents. She was shocked to see him in the helicopter, obviously persuing them and not coming to their rescue. John Winslow was Harry's father, Paul Parker was Nonnie's father, and Mopani Theron was a friend of Paul Parker.

They had almost reached the coast when Xhabbo stepped on a scorpion. He fell ill at once, and Nonnie tried to help him, but, exhausted, dehydrated and without medical resources it was impossible for her to do anything.

Answer: Sebastian

Sebastian was standing on the top of a dune, looking out at the three bodies lying on the sand. He was called by name by a bigger girl, presumably his sister. She then called for their mother, and Nonnie, Harry and Xhabbo were resuced.

Answer: False

Harry was taken to the airport by Nonnie, Xhabbo and Colonel Theron, then Nonnie returned to try to rebuild her home. As she and Mopani were working amongst the ruins of her house, Harry returned. He brought two caged lovebirds with him, to replace the ones Nonnie's mother had given her.
