Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Not-so-average teen flick about a "tempestuous" Sylvia Plath fan who finally meets her match among the "unwashed miscreants" at Padua High.

Answer: 10 Things I Hate About You

"Dirty Dancing" is about a girl in the sixties who falls in love with a dance instructor, Mandela plays Julia Stiles' best friend in this movie, and "Follow That Bird" is a Sesame Street movie.
2. Great movie about a kid in the seventies who gets to hang out with rock bands and write for Rolling Stone.

Answer: Almost Famous

"Karate Kid" is an eighties movie about a kid who learns karate (surprise!), "Good Morning, Vietnam" stars Robin Williams as a DJ for the soldiers in Vietnam during the war, and "Home Alone" is about a kid who gets left in his house being attacked by burglars when his family goes on vacation to Paris.
3. AAAAHHHH! The world is going to end! Bruce Willis! Ben Affleck! Please, stop the asteroid!

Answer: Armageddon

Liv Tyler also stars. Her father's band (Steve Tyler/Aerosmith) performs the theme song, "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing".
4. The title character isn't human, and isn't a vampire, but he kills vampires along with his hematologist gal pal in this action movie.

Answer: Blade

Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, and Stephen Dorff star. There was a second "Blade" movie made, but I haven't seen it and don't really plan on it.
5. Golf...Matt Damon...Will Smith...Charlize Theron...

Answer: The Legend of Bagger Vance

This movie is about a young golf player who "loses his swing" when he goes away to fight in World War One. Matt Damon plays the golfer, Charlize Theron plays his neglected girlfriend and owner of the newest and best golf course in Alabama, and Will Smith plays an interesting inspirational caddy...
6. Alright, so I'm a horse fan... this movie is based on the Anna Sewell novel about a horse who lives in many places and makes friends with a mare named Ginger.

Answer: Black Beauty

Once a horse fan, always a horse fan...score is by Danny Elfman, who also did "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "Sleepy Hollow", "Edward Scissorhands" and the theme to "The Simpsons".
7. A woman working in a night club in the early twentieth century falls for a young English writer who writes an amazing musical about their romance.

Answer: Moulin Rouge!

Baz Luhrmann directed "Moulin Rouge!", "William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet", and "Strictly Ballroom". The first focuses on music, the second on language, and the third on dance.
8. My favorite love story of all time! A fifteenth century Romanian prince has to leave behind his beloved princess to fight against some Turks. She thinks he's dead, so she jumps into a river. He comes back and uses all the powers of darkness to avenge her death, becoming the most famous member of the Undead.

Answer: Bram Stoker's Dracula

Gary Oldman is a genius, not only as Dracula, but also as everyone else I've seen him play (Sid Vicious in "Sid and Nancy" and Mason Verger in "Hannibal")... just an incredible actor.
9. Transvestites from the planet of Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania... lots of four inch heels and fishnets.

Answer: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The definitive cult classic. Starring Tim Curry, Richard O'Brien, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell, and Meatloaf (yes, Meatloaf plays an ex-delivery boy). I got into this movie because my dad loves it (he used to be one of those people who went to see it every Saturday night at midnight). I have yet to see it in the theater for the full experience of the call-outs and toast and toilet paper throwing... really a unique movie, with bad but incredibly catchy music.
10. "I made him an offer he couldn't refuse."

Answer: The Godfather

This quote is repeated throughout the movie, said first by Don Vito Corleone (played by Marlon Brando with cotton stuffed in his cheeks), and then later repeated by Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) when he takes over the family business. They're basically saying that they get people to do what they want by threatening to kill them if they don't do it (an offer not many people would refuse).
