V blew up the Old Bailey as a symbol that people should not be afraid of their government, but that the government should be afraid of their people. An interesting thing about the writing was that the 'u' in punish was written as a 'v'.

Evey's parents became political activists after her brother died in an epidemic breakout at St. Mary's school. Because of their activism, they were detained and Evey was sent away.
