Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What career was Alice pursuing at the start of "Alice Through the Looking Glass"?

Answer: The captain of a ship

Alice's dad owned a ship and after he died, Alice took over as captain. She had sailed around the world and loved the adventure. She had no intention of being a housewife! On her return to England, however, she found out that her ex-fiance, Hamish Ascot, was going to take the ship away from her. He had already gained possession of her father's business and her mother's house.
2. How did Alice get into Wonderland in James Bobin's sequel?

Answer: Through a mirror

Alice turned up to a 19th century English ball dressed in an costume fit for Chinese royalty (designed by Colleen Atwood). Alice loved it, but it didn't go down so well at the austere Victorian party. She fitted right in when she arrived in Wonderland, though. A butterfly that she recognised as Absolem led her through a mirror (a looking glass) into the fantasy world.
3. When Alice arrived in Wonderland, she found her friends. They told her that there was a problem with the Hatter. What was wrong with him?

Answer: He believed his family members were alive.

In the events of "Alice in Wonderland", the Hatter's family was attacked by the Jabberwocky. Everyone assumed that they had died until the Hatter found a paper hat he had made as a child. It led him to believe that his family had actually survived, just like his hat had. Alice was tasked with asking Time to save the Hatter's family in the past.
4. Time wouldn't help Alice fix the problem, so she decided to steal something from him and do it herself. How did Alice travel back in time?

Answer: Using a chronosphere

Time wouldn't help Alice save the Hatter's family. He told her that it was impossible to change the past. Alice then stole Time's chronosphere to go back by herself. The White Queen told Alice that only she could go back in time: if any of the Hatter's friends saw their future selves, all of history would be destroyed.

The TARDIS was a time machine from "Doctor Who" and the DeLorean was a time-travelling car in "Back to the Future".
5. The Red Queen was not always destined to be ruler of Wonderland. Who took Iracebeth's position as monarch-to-be?

Answer: Her sister, Mirana

The Mad Hatter and his family had designed a new tiara for Iracebeth (who later became the Red Queen). The problem was that the tiara didn't fit on her enormous head. The Hatter began to giggle, which set the audience off, completely embarrassing the princess.

She let out a tirade of shouting until her father, the King, deemed her unfit to rule Wonderland. The princess left in disgrace, harbouring a grudge against the subjects of Wonderland, and her sister (and future White Queen), Mirana.
6. In "Alice Through the Looking Glass", what was the Hatter's real name and which actor played him?

Answer: He was called Tarrant Hightopp and was played by Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp played the Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice Through the Looking Glass". In these films, the Hatter was from a family of hat makers called the Hightopps. His first name was Tarrant and he had curly orange hair.
7. Time caught up with Alice but she managed to escape into the real world. Where did she wake up?

Answer: In a bed in a mental hospital

Hamish Ascot had Alice taken to a mental hospital where she was diagnosed with 'female hysteria'. When she awoke, her mother was there to explain the situation. Alice tried to get out of her hospital bed, but the orderlies and a doctor kept her there. With the help of her mother, Alice managed to escape.

She took the the syringe that was intended to put her to sleep and jabbed it in the doctor's leg instead.
8. Someone travelled to the past (forcing their sibling to go with them) and encountered their former self, causing time to collapse. Who broke the past?

Answer: Iracebeth (the Red Queen)

Iracebeth had held a grudge against her sister, Mirana, since childhood. When the adult Iracebeth got hold of the time-travelling chronosphere, she took Mirana to see the moment when things started to go wrong for the future Red Queen. The young princesses saw their future selves and time started to collapse.
9. In "Alice Through the Looking Glass" there were two queens: the White Queen and the Red Queen. Why did the two queens fall out?

Answer: The White Queen lied about eating some tarts, causing her sister to be blamed.

Mirana and Iracebeth were princesses who grew up to be the White Queen and the Red Queen respectively. Mirana stole a jam tart from her mother's kitchen, but denied any wrongdoing when questioned by her mother, the Queen. Iracebeth got the blame and ran out of the room in tears. Iracebeth ran out of the castle, into a town square, and banged her head. From that moment, her head became larger than normal and her personality took a turn for the worse.
10. One member of the cast died four months before "Alice Through the Looking Glass" was released. Who was the film dedicated to?

Answer: Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman was the voice of Absolem in "Alice in Wonderland" and its sequel. Rickman died of cancer in January 2016. When "Alice Through the Looking Glass" was released in May of that year, the film was dedicated to his memory. The live action thriller "Eye in the Sky" also featured Alan Rickman.

When it was released in April 2016, it was dedicated to him, too. They were Rickman's final two films.
