Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which, from the following choices, composer does NOT have a piece in "Fantasia"?

Answer: Mozart

Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music)" would have made a great segment! The ones that were used were Bach's "Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor", Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony", and Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite".
2. Which part of "The Nutcracker Suite" was NOT used in the film?

Answer: Overture Miniature

The familiar "March" was also cut from the film.
3. According to The Walt Disney archives, who was the model for the sorcerer in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"?

Answer: Boris Karloff

Bela Lugosi was the model for Chernabog in the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence.
Officially he was based on Karloff, but rumours abound that animators secretly modelled the character after Walt himself. He is even called Yen Sid which is Disney backwards.
4. Which was NOT a Greek god featured in "The Pastoral Symphony" sequence?

Answer: Poseidon

Other gods and mythical creatures include: Vulcan, Isis, Diana, Vespers, Pegasus, Cupids, Centaurs, Satyrs, and a unicorn.
5. Which sequence was filmed for "Fantasia" but not used because of length?

Answer: Claire De Lune

The "Claire De Lune" sequence by Debussy was eventually changed to "Blue Bayou" and included in the film "Make Mine Music".
6. According to the Walt Disney Archives, which piece was considered being made into a sequence but was considered "too German" at the beginning of WWII?

Answer: Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries

Other pieces considered and not used were "Invitation to the Dance", "Swan of Tuonella", and "Scenes from a Perambulator".
7. Which dinosaur is NOT featured in the "Rite of Spring" sequence?

Answer: Velociraptor

Raptors were not discovered at the time.
8. Which composer's piece features the only vocal sequence in the film besides the host's introductions?

Answer: Schubert's

Of course the Sound Track fellow provides an amusing sequence in the middle of the film, but none of what is produced by him is vocal.
9. Which animal is NOT featured in the "Dance of the Hours" segment?

Answer: Bear

If I included Hippo in one of the answers it would have been too obvious.
10. Here's a good one. How many Germanic composers have works featured in the film (By Germanic, I mean they are from Germany or Austria)?

Answer: 3

They are Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert, in order of appearance.
