It seems they have decided to end the suffering of lonely old bachelors, by serving them poison and having their brother bury them in the basement. Even though Mortimer was adopted, this is what he says to his wife, Elaine (Priscilla Lane), when he tries to explain his strange family to her.

"Butterfield 8" (1960) stars Elizabeth Taylor as an upper class, promiscuous young lady, who falls for a hard drinking man, who has married into money. Gloria (Elizabeth Taylor) is trying to explain to her mother that she's changed, but her mother refuses to listen.

She wants her mother to understand she's changed; she's stayed with only one man for one whole week instead of sleeping with a string of men like she used to. This line surely gets her mother's attention, since Gloria gets slapped for it.
