Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these movies about a computer taking over the world starred Susan Clark?

Answer: Colossus: The Forbin Project

The movie concerned Forbin creating a computer named "Colossus" which was hooked into the nuclear weapons of the United States. Russia also had one of these big computers which controlled their missiles, so they consented to let Colossus "talk" to their computer, but it took over the Russian computer, which meant that one computer controlled all missiles from Russia and the United States, so everyone had to do what the computer said, or else.
2. In which movie did talking animals from the future travel into the past?

Answer: Escape From the Planet of the Apes

In "Escape From the Planet of the Apes" NASA recovered the spaceship Taylor had flown in "Planet of the Apes", but the NASA people were surprised when large chimpanzees wearing spacesuits came out of the spaceship. People were even more surprised when they found out the apes could speak, and the apes said they came from future Earth.

A German scientist decided to kill the intelligent apes to prevent them from taking over the Earth in the future.
3. There were at least three movies featuring a doomsday bomb or doomsday device. Which one starred Charlton Heston?

Answer: Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Continuing from "Planet of the Apes" the movie followed Taylor (Heston) as he was captured by some underground mutant people who lived in the Forbidden Zone. Another astronaut landed and looked for Taylor, and the apes followed him and attacked the people who worshipped "the doomsday bomb".

These people had psychic powers and were descended from survivors of a nuclear war from the past, but they had stayed hidden from the apes, while the apes treated the "yahoos" on the surface of planet Earth like animals.
4. In which movie did a teenager almost start World War III?

Answer: War Games

Every movie I listed involved a computer controlling nuclear weapons. In "War Games", yet another computer was connected to the missiles, and a teenage boy (Matthew Broderick) hacked into the system and played a computer game showing a simulated nuclear war, but the military people thought it was really happening.

The boy and his girl friend escaped the military and found the man who created the computer and brought him back to show the military what to do to prevent World War III.
5. Which movie featuring a doomsday device starred Herbert Lom?

Answer: The Pink Panther Strikes Again

"The Pink Panther Strikes Again" was a wild science-fiction continuation of "The Return of the Pink Panther". At the end of "Return", Dreyfus (Lom) was wearing a straight jacket in a padded cell writing with his feet on the wall that he wanted to kill Clouseau.

In "A Shot in the Dark" Clouseau had caused lots of trouble when he attempted to prove that a maid was innocent of a bunch of murders. Fearing that Clouseau was right, Dreyfus planted a bomb in Clouseau's car, but most of the murder suspects got in the car and it exploded.

In "Return of the Pink Panther" Dreyfus was now a chief inspector instead of a commissioner, but he continued trying to kill Clouseau, and this time he was locked away in a mental institution. In "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" he escapes and puts together a group of criminals who rob banks and kidnap a scientist which builds the doomsday device which makes the United Nations building disappear.

He gets on TV and says if Clouseau isn't killed within a week, he'll make something else disappear.

A bunch of assassins from different nations are sent to kill Clouseau.
6. Which movie featuring a doomsday device starred George C. Scott?

Answer: Dr. Strangelove

George C. Scott played a general who advised the President on what to do after a general went crazy and used the secret code to order the Air Force to go past the "fail safe" point and drop bombs on Russia. Later, the Americans found out that the Russians have a "doomsday device" which will destroy all life on Earth if Russia is hit with a nuclear bomb.
7. Which movie featuring an illness that kills almost everyone on Earth starred Chuck Connors?

Answer: Virus

It seems a little obvious, but a 1980 movie simply called "Virus" was the movie starring Chuck Connors as a British submarine commander after most of the people on Earth have been wiped out, except for people at a scientific station in Antarctica, and the people in Chuck's submarine.

The movie was infamous for being one of the most expensive movies ever made at that time. Filmed all over the world with an international cast, most people have never seen the Japanese production, and there have been other movies called "Virus", which have nothing to do with this movie.
8. What was the thing which brought dead people back to life in "Night of the Living Dead"?

Answer: Radiation

In one of the few movies which gave an explanation for it all, in "Night of the Living Dead", people trapped in a house surrounded by zombies watched people on TV explaining that a probe NASA had sent to Venus had been returning to Earth when NASA discovered it had strange radiation. NASA exploded the probe, but the radiation hit Earth anyway, which caused dead people to come back to life and kill people, and the people they killed came back to life and killed more people, etc.
9. What was Drax's evil plan in "Moonraker"?

Answer: Kill every person on planet Earth

In the movie "Moonraker", which was different from the Ian Fleming novel, Drax invented a poison gas which would kill everyone on Earth while keeping the animals alive while he lived in a space station with people he chose to repopulate the Earth in the future, after the poison gas would've worn off.
10. In which movie did aliens bring dead people back to life to warn Earth people against inventing dangerous weapons?

Answer: Plan 9 From Outer Space

Listed as the worst movie ever made on many lists, "Plan 9 From Outer Space" is famous for being a low budget movie clumsily directed by Ed Wood. The movie was so infamous that a movie about the making of it and other movies was explained in the movie "Ed Wood" in which Martin Landau won an Oscar for playing as Bela Lugosi.

In this movie, Lugosi played an old man brought back to life as a zombie to warn some Air Force people to stop experimenting before they might accidentally invent a bomb which explodes light particles.

The alien man explained that once light particles start exploding, it could spread all over the universe and destroy every planet, starting with Earth.
