Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We first meet Cassie in a bar on the verge of passing out. Her clearly inebriated state attracts the attention of Jerry, who offers to take her home. They end up at his place for a drink, where he tries to become intimate with her. But there's something about Cassie that Jerry doesn't know yet. What?

Answer: She is completely sober.

When we meet Cassie, she's sitting alone at a bar and in danger of passing out. She attracts the attention of a group of guys, who feign concern for her well-being but are really objectifying her and it is clear that they also see the opportunity in the situation. Jerry volunteers to go over to see if she's okay. She seems disoriented and she's lost her phone, so Jerry offers to drop her somewhere on his way home. Once they are in a rideshare, Jerry points out that he lives just a few blocks away, and suggests a nightcap. Once in his apartment, Jerry plies Cassie with some disgusting kumquat liqueur. When she looks like she might throw up and says that she needs to lie down, Jerry escorts Cassie to his bed. "Don't go to sleep," he tells her, as he jumps into bed with her. "Gosh, you are so pretty," he says, as he starts kissing her. "Wait," Cassie says weakly, as he starts unbuttoning her top. "It's okay. Hey, you're safe," he tells her, as he kisses her again. Cassie can only manage a feeble, "What are you doing?", even as Jerry pulls her underwear down to her knees. She repeats the question, but Jerry doesn't stop. In an instant, Cassie's entire demeanor changes; she is suddenly alert and her eyes open wide. "Hey," she says clearly. When that doesn't get his attention, she sits up in bed and looks directly at Jerry. "Hey!" she yells. "I said, 'What are you doing?'" Jerry looks up in horror at a completely sober Cassie.

The scene shifts to a shot of bare feet walking down a street the next morning. The camera pulls out, panning up to reveal Cassie with what looks like blood splatter on her leg, blouse and arm. It takes us a moment to notice the hot dog she is holding in her left hand. Cassie takes another messy bite of her breakfast, sending more ketchup running down her elbow. Later, we see Cassie in her bedroom as she takes out a small book and pen, held together with a hair tie. She opens the book to a page in the middle, which is covered in rows of little tally marks. She adds a mark and flips to the front of the book, which contains a list of men's names. She adds the name "Jerry" to the list, and closes the book.
2. We see Cassie with another one of her 'victims', a 30-ish hipster named Neil. As with Jerry, Neil met Cassie in a bar and brought her back to his place. As with Jerry, Neil is taking advantage of Cassie's compromised state. She lets him proceed with his whole seduction routine, before revealing her surprise. What happens next?

Answer: He wants her to leave.

When we first see Neil, he is boring Cassie with a description of the novel he is writing. When he leaves to fetch Cassie a glass of water, she pretends to be asleep on the couch. "Hey, you," he says upon his return, as he pokes gently at her head. "Hey!" he says again, louder, as he nudges her awake. "I nearly didn't come out tonight, and I am so glad that I did. I feel such a connection to you," he says sweetly. "Could you call me a cab?" Cassie asks, holding her head. "You just got here," Neil pleads. "No, I need to go home," Cassie replies, as Neil begins kissing her. "No, you don't want to go home," he says, as his hand finds its way up her skirt. She lets him fumble around for a few moments before dropping the act. "Hey, Neil," she says clearly, as she grabs his face and looks right into his eyes. "I said I need to go home."

Neil jumps away from Cassie in shock. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. What is this? Are you some kind of psycho or something?" he asks. "Why do you say that?" she replies. "I just thought that you were...," Neil begins. "Drunk?" Cassie asks, completing his sentence. "Yeah," Neil says. "Really drunk?" she asks, as Neil realizes the pickle he is in. "Well, I'm not. But that's good, isn't it?" Cassie says innocently. "I think you should leave," Neil says. "Oh, now you want me to leave?" Cassie teases. "But a second ago you were determined for me to stay. You were pretty insistent, actually." Cassie walks over to a bowl of chips and starts eating. "I'm a nice guy," Neil says pathetically. "Are you?" Cassie asks. "I thought we had a connection, I guess," Neil manages. "A connection? Okay. What do I do for a living?" Cassie asks. "Sorry. Maybe that one's too hard," she adds, when she gets no response. "How old am I? How long have I lived in the city? What are my hobbies?" Neil has no idea. "What's my name?" Cassie finally asks, a wicked little smile forming on her face. "All right, all right," Neil replies, defeated. "What do you want from me?" Cassie begins moving closer to Neil, which causes him to back away from her until he's almost at the other end of the room. "I am a nice guy," Neil finally says. "You keep saying that. You're not as rare as you think. You know how I know?" she asks. "Because every week I go to a club. And every week I act like I'm too drunk to stand. And every..." - Cassie shoves Neil against the wall at this point - "...week a nice guy like you comes over to see if I'm okay." Cassie's face is just inches away from Neil's, as she asks him if he still wants to sleep with her. "No, thank you, ma'am," he whispers. "Hmm. No one ever does," she observes, before backing off. "Careful next time you go out, Neil," she tells him, as she heads out the door. "Your novel sounds terrible, by the way."

The film puts an exciting new spin on the typical revenge thriller trope, where instead of guns or knives, Cassie's weapons of choice are humiliation and shame.
3. Cassie is working at the coffee shop when she bumps into Ryan, who she used to go to medical school with. What unconventional thing does she do right before Ryan asks her out?

Answer: She spits in his coffee.

Cassie is manning the coffee shop one day when a customer walks in. "Can I get a coffee, please?" he asks. Cassie begins making his drink, but is distracted. She absentmindedly asks if he wants milk, before finally looking up to find the customer staring at her. "What?" she asks self-consciously. "Cassandra?" he says. "Ryan. Cooper? We were in class together at Forrest Med School." Cassie remembers him. "God. Why are you working here?" he blurts out, before adding, "I didn't mean... That was rude." Ryan tries to recover, but just digs himself in deeper. "I just meant, you know, given... There's no getting out of this, is there?" he finally says. Cassie is thoroughly enjoying this. "You want milk? In your coffee?" she asks again. "No," Ryan replies. "But you can spit in it if you want. I deserve that." Without missing a beat, Cassie leans over the to-go cup and spits in it before handing it over. Ryan is lost for words for a moment and can only manage an awkward "thank you". He finally gathers up the nerve to pop the question. "Do you want to go out with me?" he asks. Cassie is taken aback. "Seriously? I just spat in your coffee," she points out. Ryan looks Cassie right in the eyes and takes a long drink from the tainted cup.

Cassie eventually agrees to go out with Ryan. They have a similar dark sense of humor and make a good match. Despite a miscalculation on Ryan's part at the end of their first date, Cassie decides to give him another chance, and they begin hanging out together. On one such occasion, the conversation turns to fellow students from med school, and Cassie learns from Ryan that Al Monroe has moved back to the U.S. to get married. Cassie covers up her shock in hearing Al's name, but it is clear that she is shaken. Cassie's motivations are slowly revealed over the course of the movie, but we eventually learn that her best friend, Nina, was raped by Al Monroe, and the fallout from that eventually led to Cassie and Nina dropping out of med school and Nina taking her own life. That night, Cassie looks Al up on social media, and begins to formulate a plan and a list of people to reconnect with.
4. Cassie arranges a lunch with Madison, another former classmate from medical school and the first name on her hit list. Why is Madison a target of Cassie?

Answer: She didn't believe Nina when she said that she was raped.

Cassie arrives early for her lunch with Madison at a fancy hotel restaurant so that she can have everything ready. She orders champagne but ensures that her glass is filled with ginger ale, and makes sure to top up Madison's glass more often than her own when they switch to wine. Cassie waits until Madison is properly soused before moving to the next phase of her plan. "You know. I actually wanted to meet you today, to talk about something in particular," Cassie finally confesses. "I wanted to talk to you about why I dropped out." Madison drinks her wine, but she is suddenly uncomfortable. "You remember what happened, right?" Cassie asks. "Do you ever think about it?" Madison's face remains blank. "Why would I?" she asks. "Right. Why would you?" Cassie says, before adding, "So, if a friend came to you now, into your house, and told you that they thought something bad had happened to them the night before - something bad - what would you say?" Madison shakes her head. "Cassie, it was years ago," she says, deflecting. "Would you roll your eyes behind her back and dismiss the whole thing as drama?" Cassie asks. Madison becomes defensive. "I don't know why you're mad at me, okay. I'm not the only one who didn't believe it. If you have a reputation for sleeping around then maybe people aren't going to believe you when you say something's happened! I mean, it's crying wolf," Madison says. "You thought it was crying wolf?" Cassie asks. "I don't make the rules," Madison replies. "Look, when you get that drunk, things happen. Don't get blackout drunk all the time and then expect people to be on your side when you have sex with someone you don't want to." Cassie registers this for a moment. "That's a shame," she says. "For your sake, I was hoping you'd feel different by now."

Cassie leaves a very drunk Madison at lunch, and walks over to a man sitting at the bar. "She's over there," she tells him, as she hands him an envelope and a key. "Room 25. Your money's in the envelope," she says. The man asks her if she's sure about this. Cassie looks over to Madison quickly. "I'm sure," she tells him. The next day, Cassie starts to get numerous missed calls from Madison, who woke up in a hotel room with a strange man, and couldn't remember what happened. She leaves increasingly frantic voicemails for Cassie, who ignores them and never calls Madison back. Cassie takes out her little book and crosses out the page with Madison's name at the top. She turns the page to show the next name on her list: "Walker".
5. Cassie's next target is Walker, the Dean of Forrest Medical School. Cassie plans on getting to Dean Walker through someone close to her. Who?

Answer: Her teenage daughter

Cassie sits in her car outside of a high school, waiting for Amber, her target, to walk by. While asking her for directions. Cassie casually lets it slip that she's a makeup artist on her way to work a music video shoot for Amber's favorite boy band, and from there it becomes frighteningly easy to lure Amber into her car. "If you tell anyone or post about this, I will never work again," Cassie says. "I swear I won't post anything. I promise. Take my phone!" Amber begs, handing Cassie her phone.

A short while later, Cassie is sitting in Forrest University, at the office of the Dean of the medical school. Her assistant tells her she can go on in. "May I ask what prompted your desire to get back to your studies?" Dean Walker asks, after Cassie settles in her office. "I guess... I couldn't stop thinking about my time here," Cassie replies. "But I left under unusual circumstances. I left because of what happened to Nina." Dean Walker looks blankly at Cassie. It is clear that she doesn't remember Nina, so Cassie asks if she remembers Al Monroe, which she does. "Oh, he's a really nice guy. Really smart. Are you a friend of his?" asks Dean Walker. "No," Cassie answers bluntly. "So, you don't remember the accusations made against Al Monroe?" When Dean Walker answers in the negative, Cassie details how Al had taken Nina back to his room where he had sex with her in front of his friends when she was too drunk to know what was happening. "Was it reported?" the Dean asks gently. "Yes," Cassie replies. "Do you know who Nina spoke to?" the Dean asks, grabbing a pen to note down the name. "You," Cassie replies. "But you can't remember." The Dean puts on a sympathetic face. "You know, we get accusations like this all the time. One or two a week. I'm so sorry I don't remember your friend Nina, but I can assure you, at the time, that I looked into it thoroughly," she says, before proceeding to suggest that Nina shares some responsibility for allowing herself to be so "vulnerable" in the first place through "regrettable" life choices. "Regrettable?" Cassie asks. "Yes. I mean, what would you have me do? Ruin a young man's life every time we get an accusation like this?" the Dean says gently. "So you're happy to take the boy's word for it?" Cassie asks. "I have to give him the benefit of the doubt," the Dean explains. "Because innocent until proven guilty." Cassie isn't surprised at the Dean's answers, but thanks her for her time anyway.

"We have to give these boys the benefit of the doubt," Cassie says in agreement. "That's why I know you won't mind that three hours ago I picked your daughter Amber up from school and introduced her to the boys who live in that room now." Dean Walker is stunned. "I don't believe you," she says. She picks up the phone to call her daughter's cellphone, and is surprised when it rings in Cassie's bag. "Oh, wait! I have her phone. She'll be wanting that later," Cassie says casually, dropping Amber's phone on the desk. The Dean becomes deadly serious. "Tell me what room my daughter is in right now," she says, getting to her feet. "I told you. The same room Nina was in," Cassie replies. "What are you doing? She is a young girl," the Dean pleads. "I wonder if she looks so young to those guys," Cassie observes. The Dean becomes hysterical, screaming at Cassie to tell her where her daughter is. Eventually, she lowers her voice and slumps back in her chair, defeated. "You're right, okay? Is that what you want to hear? You're right," she says quietly. "Look how easy it was. I guess you just had to think about it in the right way. I guess it feels different when it's someone you love," Cassie says coldly. "Tell me where my daughter is, please," the Dean pleads, through tears. Cassie gives it a few more moments before breaking out in a chuckle. "Relax!" she says. "Dean Walker, do you really think I would do something like that? Luckily, I don't have as much faith in boys as you do. Amber is sitting in a diner waiting for her favorite boy band to show up for a music video. It's the Castle Diner if you want to call and check. Or you should probably call, actually, or she may never figure out they're not coming. She's kind of an idiot, huh? Gorgeous, though. Who needs brains? They never did a girl any good." Cassie gets up. "Great to see you again, Dean Walker," she says, as she leaves.
6. Cassie pays a visit to Jordan Green, the lawyer who represented Al Monroe in the allegations made by Nina. How is Jordan different from the others on Cassie's hit-list?

Answer: He is consumed with guilt over what he did.

Cassie steps up to Jordan's front door and knocks. "Can I help you?" Jordan asks when he opens the door. "I really hope so," Cassie says. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm no longer practicing the law, if that's what you've come for," Jordan replies. "It's not about that. I'm afraid it's your day of reckoning," Cassie says. "I've been waiting," Jordan replies. He seems resigned as he lets her in. "I came here to talk to you about something that happened seven years ago," Cassie says, after taking a seat in Jordan's living room. "You probably won't remember a client named Alexander Monroe. You helped so many boys like him. And you most certainly won't remember the girl who you threatened and bullied till she dropped her case," she says.

"I remember her. Nina? Was that it?" Jordan replies, as Cassie tries to hide her shock. "I'm sorry, I don't remember her full name, but... I remember her," Jordan says. "Have you come here to hurt me?" he adds. "Do you want me to hurt you?" she asks. "I think so," he replies. "I had what I think was an epiphany, but my doctors called it a psychotic episode. And it was at work, so now I'm on a sabbatical." Jordan gets up and starts pacing, confessing about how his firm paid bonuses for every charge dropped and every out-of-court settlement. Suddenly, Jordan falls to his knees in front of Cassie, and describes how they would comb through social media accounts for dirt on a victim. "One drunk photo at a party. Oh, you wouldn't believe how hostile that makes a jury," he says. He clutches Cassie's hands, startling her. "You've got to help me. I can't sleep," he says. "I'll never forgive myself. I want you to know that. I'll never forgive myself for any of this." Cassie contemplates Jordan for a moment, then says, "I forgive you." Jordan rests his head on Cassie's knees in relief.

Cassie leaves Jordan's house and walks to her car, where a man is waiting. "Do I go in now?" he asks. "No," Cassie replies quietly. "Oh. I'm still getting paid though, right?" he says. "Yeah," Cassie replies, and gets into her car. Cassie always gives her targets a chance to do or say the right thing, and there's always a point in her escapades where she can withhold the particular form of retribution that she has in store. Jordan is the first of her targets to show genuine remorse, which is why Cassie lets him off the hook. One wonders if Madison and Dean Walker could have also avoided Cassie's wrath if they had conducted themselves differently.
7. After meeting with Nina's mother, Cassie abandons her plans for revenge in the hopes of repairing her relationship with Ryan. Does he take her back?

Answer: Yes

Cassie had blown Ryan off after her meeting with Dean Walker, as she was in no frame of mind to proceed with their movie date. She heads out to a bar that night and lets another guy take her home, and is leaving in Paul's arms when Ryan walks by and recognizes her. He had arranged to meet some friends after Cassie canceled on him, and happened to be going to the same bar. Cassie tries to explain the situation to Ryan, but he isn't interested in hearing her and it would be difficult for Cassie to clarify what he just saw without revealing what she's been up to.

Cassie pays a visit to Nina's mother, who pleads for her to stop what she's doing and move on. "It isn't good for any of us. It's no good for Nina. It isn't good for you," she says. Back at home, Cassie stares at the Frender page for Al Monroe's bachelor party. She deletes her social media account and closes the laptop. She also removes the hair tie from her little book of names and tally marks and wraps it around her wrist, before throwing the book into the trash.

Cassie goes to see Ryan in his apartment to apologize for the other night. "I've been trying to think about how to explain. It's not that I'm not interested. I really am. I really, really am," she says. "Sorry if I'm confused," Ryan says. "We've been on a couple of dates. You won't kiss me, or touch me, which is fine. And then I see you going home with some random creep." Cassie makes a joke which makes Ryan laugh despite himself, which is a good sign. "The other night... it's hard to explain it, but it won't happen again. I promise it'll never happen again. Can we try again?" she says. Ryan is unsure, and Cassie feels that she has blown her chance and leaves. Some time later, Ryan visits Cassie in the coffee shop and takes her back. They kiss. We see the pair spending time together in a montage like something out of a romantic comedy. Ryan even has dinner with Cassie's parents, whom he charms effortlessly. Cassie seems happy and at peace.
8. Madison has been trying to reach Cassie since the day of their lunch, and finally catches up with her outside her house. Cassie comes clean with Madison about what happened that day, and Madison informs Cassie that someone had filmed Al's encounter with Nina and that she had saved the video. Who does Cassie discover was present at Nina's rape?

Answer: Ryan

Cassie is walking up to her house carrying groceries when she is surprised by Madison, who has been desperately trying to find out what happened after her lunch with Cassie when she woke up to find herself in a hotel room with a strange man. "Madison, I'm sorry. I should have called you back. Nothing happened with that guy. Please believe me," Cassie says. "I know what it seemed like. But it wasn't. He didn't touch you." Madison's relief is palpable, and we wonder what the last couple of weeks must have been like for her. "Oh, thank God. Oh. I was so worried that, um, that I... that he and I...," Madison blurts out. "He just put you in bed. Kept an eye on you to make sure you were okay," Cassie reassures. "I'm really sorry I didn't call you back. It wasn't nice." Madison tells Cassie that she has something to show her, and asks if they can go inside.

Madison follows Cassie into her living room, and reveals why she is here. "After we had lunch and I got so drunk and woke up in a hotel room with that guy, I thought about it - about what you said about Nina - and how we all just acted like... and I remembered something," she says. "What?" Cassie asks impatiently. "There was a tape," Madison says. "A stupid video. It just got sent around. I got sent it. Everyone did." Cassie is dumbstruck. Madison removes an old cellphone from her bag - she had saved all her old phones for the photos - and places it in front of Cassie. "You can have the phone, okay? You don't have to watch it... I really wouldn't watch it. But, um, I don't know. Do whatever you want with it. Just leave me out of it," she says, and leaves. Cassie kneels down, picks up the phone, and plays the video. We only see Cassie's reaction from watching it, but by that measure the video must be horrific. We hear the voices of the guys cheering Al on as he has his way with Nina. Cassie has to look away at several points, when a familiar voice in the video makes her expression change. "Whoa. This is insane. Yo, don't film me. Dude, put the camera away," Ryan says on the video. Cassie is devastated. She drops the phone in shock and goes outside to try and clear her head.
9. Cassie shows up for Al Monroe's bachelor party masquerading as a stripper. She easily gains access to the party, gets Al all to herself and handcuffs him to the bed so that she can confront him and purge seven years of poorly-contained rage. What happens next?

Answer: Al overpowers and kills Cassie.

Cassie uses the video to blackmail Ryan into providing her with the location of Al Monroe's bachelor party. When Cassie confronts Ryan, he is initially pleading and self-pitying, but quickly turns defensive and eventually cruel. It makes no difference to Cassie, who has written Ryan off. "Don't tell any of them that I'm coming, 'cause I'll send the video around just the same if you do," she warns him.

Cassie gains access to the bachelor party dressed as a stripper. The guys all assume that one of the others had hired her, and she is let into the cabin without any questions. She gives everyone except Al spiked alcohol to ensure that they pass out, and leads Al upstairs to the bedroom, where she handcuffs him to the bed. She keeps up the act for a bit, but when Al asks for her name, she tells him that she is Nina Fisher. Al starts to panic, and eventually works out that Cassie is Nina's friend. "What do you want? Money? You blackmailing me?" he asks. "I want you to tell me what you did," Cassie says calmly. Al deflects and makes excuses, claiming that he didn't do anything wrong, until Cassie reminds him about the video. Al begins to cry and pleads with Cassie that he will do anything she wants, but still won't accept any responsibility for the rape. "She dropped out. Top of her class, and she dropped out. I did, too, to take care of her. The two of us, gone. You graduated magna cum laude, though. Did you ever feel guilty? Or did you just feel relieved that she'd gone?" Cassie asks. "You know, I was affected by it, too, okay? I mean, it's every guy's worst nightmare, getting accused like that," he says. "Can you guess what every woman's worst nightmare is?" Cassie replies. She removes a scalpel from her bag, and informs Al that she intends to carve Nina's name all over his body. She straddles Al and starts unbuttoning his shirt, when Al manages to break his left wrist free from the handcuffs and grabs Cassie by the arm. They struggle - Al eventually manages to pin Cassie down with his knee, so that he can grab a pillow with his free hand to smother her with.

In an extended sequence that is incredibly difficult to watch, we see Cassie kicking and screaming under the weight of a sobbing and increasingly desperate Al. We keep expecting Cassie to turn things around, or to come back to life in dramatic movie fashion long after her body has gone limp and Al finally climbs off her. It never happens. The next morning, Joe finds Al in bed next to Cassie's body, and has to console his friend, telling him that this wasn't his fault. They wait for everyone else to leave, and then they burn Cassie's body and belongings in the forest.
10. Cassie had put in place a contingency plan in case things didn't work out at the bachelor party. Where do the final moments of her plan unfold?

Answer: Al's wedding

Cassie's parents file a missing person's report, and a detective shows up at Ryan's office. Ryan tries to appear helpful but he is clearly still worried about a potential fallout involving the video. He learns that Cassie has been missing since Friday, the day after they broke up. "Between you and me, it sounded like she wasn't feeling so good. Mentally, I mean. Her father seemed to think she was a little unstable," the detective discloses. "Do you think she might have wanted to hurt herself?" he asks. "She could've, yeah," Ryan replies, relieved that he may get out of this unscathed. Satisfied, the detective leaves.

We cut to a bright afternoon day in an immaculately decorated lawn where Al Monroe is having his wedding. The guests seem to be enjoying themselves - Ryan is among them. His phone goes off and he is surprised to see a scheduled message from Cassie coming through. As the message loads, we see a montage of different scenes: Jordan Green receiving a package from Cassie enclosing Madison's old phone, and a note to contact the police in the event of her disappearance; Cassie's friend, Gail, at the coffee shop finding Nina's half of a heart-shaped BFF necklace hidden in the cash register; police dogs picking up a scent in the woods and locating the burnt remains from Cassie's makeshift cremation, with only a pile of ashes and the other half of the necklace remaining, the name "Nina" engraved on it still readable.

Back at the wedding, the scheduled text finally loads on Ryan's phone: "You didn't think this was the end, did you?" He looks around nervously, as the sound of police sirens begin to permeate the festivities. The next scheduled message from Cassie comes through: "It is now." Police cars pull up to the wedding and Al is handcuffed (again) and taken away in tears. Ryan looks down again as the last of Cassie's scheduled messages load: "Enjoy the wedding! Love, Cassie & Nina."
