Question 1 of 10
1. A cloud passes in front of the moon. You hear the beating of huge wings above you. As you stare up in terror, you see a dark winged figure with two glowing red eyes in its chest glaring at you. What is it? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Footsteps behind you. You turn and it's a woman carrying what seems to be a large vegetable that looks sort of like an eggplant. She suggests that since it's night you should go off into the bushes and take a little nap. Something doesn't feel right. Who is this woman and why does she want you to sleep? Your subconscious tells you to run, but you're SO tired, and this woman looks harmless enough. Should you take a little catnap? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. There's a crackling in the bushes. Suddenly an ant steps out on the road. But not just any ant. This thing is gigantic. It towers above you. And it's staring straight at you. You can run, but you know that in the end it won't matter. What 1950s horror movie, starring James Whitmore and James Arness, did this creature escape from? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. The bright moon is blotted out. Another cloud? No - it's an old, ugly hag with wings, clothed in some kind of rotting gown. She's staring straight at you and she's emitting a horrible wail. It's a banshee. When they screech, it means someone is about to die, and it's probably going to be you. What 1959 Disney movie starring, among others, Sean Connery of James Bond fame, did she escape from? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Is that a dog howling that you hear? Or is it a coyote? Or maybe something worse? As you walk on you hear rustling in the bushes beside you. Whatever it is, it's following you. Suddenly a man-like creature jumps out of the bushes and blocks your path. The full moon makes it clearly visible. It's covered with hair and has a pair of fangs that that would scare a grizzly bear, and it looks like it's hungry. What should you do? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. What's that behind you? Hoof beats. Now who would be riding a horse down a dark path at night? The horseman comes into view and he has no head. He's carrying something. It's a pumpkin and he's lifting it to throw at you. Too late to run. Better duck and hope he misses. Who starred in the 1999 release of "Sleepy Hollow"? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. As you continue walking down your lonely country road, you come upon someone walking in your direction. He appears to be carrying an axe. Perhaps he's a woodsman. No, that's not wood he's carrying in his other hand. Looks like a human head. And he's wearing a hockey mask. Now why would a hockey player have an axe instead of a hockey stick? If you could tell me which horror franchise he wandered away from, perhaps I could give him directions back to his set. Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. As you meander down the country road, you pass close to a swamp. As you do, you see a creature rise up out of the swamp and walk toward you. He appears to be man-shaped, covered in green scales with bits of moss dripping off him. His hands are exceptionally large, with webbed fingers and claws. Instead of hair he has what appears to be gills down both sides of his face. Now what 1950s horror film do you suppose he has escaped from? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. You have met so many unfriendly creatures along this country road, but here comes one who will certainly cheer you up. It's a clown. He must have lost his way from a nearby circus. But wait. This isn't just any clown. I recognize him now. He's the one from the Stephen King novel "It". I don't think he's going to be very friendly at all. But maybe if we are properly introduced, he won't bother me. Do you recall what his name was? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. The country lane has grown quiet. Too quiet. I've seen enough horror films to know that this is not a good sign. "Thud". What was that? Another "Thud". And another "Thud". You can't believe your eyes. Standing in the path is what appears to be a 25-foot tall gorilla. And from the expression on his face I don't think he's in a good mood. Perhaps if I just slowly ease into these bushes over here, he won't notice me. This is obviously King Kong. We all know about his exploits climbing up the Empire State Building without a permit and generally making a real nuisance of himself in the Big Apple, but can you tell me where he originally came from? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A cloud passes in front of the moon. You hear the beating of huge wings above you. As you stare up in terror, you see a dark winged figure with two glowing red eyes in its chest glaring at you. What is it?

Answer: Mothman

Mothman appeared in both a TV movie ("Mothman") and in a film ("The Mothman Prophecies") in 2002. Mothman is based on a creature reportedly seen around Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in 1966-67 which was described as a man-like figure with ten-foot wings with eyes that glowed red in the dark.

Its appearance was said to be linked to several supernatural events and to a bridge collapse at Point Pleasant that took several lives. If you are interested in Mothman, you can view the 12-foot polished steel statue with ruby red eyes next to the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant.

Answer: Don't do it. She's a body snatcher.

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was a 1956 horror film about a rain of pods from outer space landing near a small California town. Whenever someone falls asleep next to one of the pods, their body shrivels up and a new body is created by the pod that looks exactly like it.

Then the new body tries to put pods next to other people so they too will be converted into pod creatures. The movie was done again in 1978 starring Don Sutherland. In the first movie, the government showed up and you just knew that everything was going to turn out all right.

The second movie did not end so well.

Answer: Them!

"Them!" is a 1954 horror film about ants that become gigantic due to the atomic bomb testing in the New Mexico desert. The unique thing about it is the cast - James Whitmore, James Arness ("Gunsmoke"), Fess Parker ("Daniel Boone" and "Davy Crockett") and even Leonard Nimoy (Spock from "Star Trek").

Answer: Darby O'Gill and the Little People

"Darby O'Gill and the Little People" was a Walt Disney production about an Irishman named Darby O'Gill, and his battle of wits with the leprechauns. When Darby's daughter falls ill and a hideous banshee appears to summon the death coach to take her soul away, Darby offers himself up as a substitute to save her life.

But all turns out well in the end, as it usually does with Disney movies.

Answer: Calmly load your pistol with your Lone Ranger souvenir silver bullet and shoot it.

Yes, you have probably guessed that it's a werewolf. A lycanthrope. And when they look at you, they're thinking "lunch". It does no good to run, he will catch you before you can turn. Your only option is to kill him with something silver. Fortunately you have your Lone Ranger genuine silver commemorative bullet with you, along with your pistol and your concealed carry permit. You can make your way onward to your next unfortunate encounter.

Answer: Johnny Depp

"Sleepy Hollow" was adapted from the 1820 story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. It has been adapted into movies several times and even a TV series. This one, released in 1999, starred Johnny Depp with Tim Burton directing.

Answer: Friday the 13th

The "Friday the 13th" franchise started with the movie of the same name, released in 1980. Now, nearly forty years later, it has had numerous follow-on versions. It has inspired a television show, novels, comic books, action figures, video games and all sorts of other tie-in merchandise.

The main character is Jason Voorhees who drowned at a summer camp due to the negligence of the camp staff. Now he's all grown up and seeking revenge. Don't worry about him too much, though. I'm sure he will be retiring soon on social security.

Answer: Creature From the Black Lagoon

"Creature From the Black Lagoon" was a 1954 horror film that involved a group of scientists trying to capture a water-based creature from the Amazonian jungle and bring it back to the U.S. They should have left it where it was. It was filmed in 3-D and viewers had to wear special glasses.

It spawned two sequels; "Revenge of the Creature" in 1955 and "The Creature Walks Among Us" in 1956. There was also a movie where Abbott and Costello got to meet the Gill-Man.

Answer: Pennywise

"It" was a 1986 horror novel by author Stephen King. In it, seven children are terrorized by an entity that takes the form of a clown that calls itself Pennywise. It has inspired a 1990 TV mini-series and a 2017 film release. As if people afflicted with coulrophobia didn't have enough to deal with.

Answer: Skull Island

The King Kong character was created by filmmaker Merian Cooper. An American film crew captures him and takes him to New York City to display him. He escapes, climbs the Empire State Building, and the rest is history. In the original King Kong, he was scaled to be 25 feet tall. Nearly 30 years later, in "King Kong vs Godzilla" (1962), Kong had grown to 148 feet. Shortly thereafter in "King Kong Escapes", he was scaled to 66 feet tall.

As if finding your way around the streets of New York City aren't confusing enough, poor Kong has to deal with height issues.
