It's a hot summer night and its even hotter in Oscar's apartment, because the air conditioner is broken. It appears that Oscar is hosting poker night because he needs to get rid of the food in his refrigerator (It's broken, too). So, he's making green sandwiches and brown sandwiches in the kitchen. Since the green sandwiches have "either very new cheese or very old meat," it's better to pick the brown! By the way, did you notice that Vinnie (John Fiedler), who is winning the game, rifled through his cards in full view of the camera (and the other players) when the new hand was dealt? He had (in order of cards shown) Queen of Diamonds, Ten of Hearts, Four of Hearts, Nine of Clubs, and Queen of Clubs.

In other words, he had a pair of Queens.

He then said he wanted no cards on the redraw, and his hand was supposed to be a straight!

Oscar's ex-wife, Blanche, had taken their kids to California (The movie is set in New York City). During the poker game, Oscar (Walter Matthau) answers the phone, and he is trying to figure out who called: "Dabby? Dabby, who?...No, there's no Dabby here...Oh, Daddy!" (To his friends) "For cryin' out loud, it's my kid!" (Back on the phone) "Brucey! How are ya, baby?"

Answer: Oscar's ice cream hits it

Oscar is the culprit! He was using his chocolate ice cream cone to make a point about how unique a person Felix is, and he ended up flinging the ice cream onto Felix's coat!

Oscar: "You keep leaving me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can't stand little notes on my pillow! 'We're all out of corn flakes - F.U.' Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Ungar!"

Their names were Cecily and Gwendolyn (or is it Gwendolyn and Cecily?) Pigeon. Anyway, one is divorced and, technically, the other is a widow; the divorce was in progress when her husband died.

OSCAR: "Now would you mind getting that spaghetti off my poker table?"

The game was Mets vs. Pirates and the bases were loaded with nobody out in the top of the ninth inning. When Bill Mazeroski stepped up to the plate, a fellow sports writer commented that the game was over, to which Oscar said he could always hit into a triple play. Then Felix called and, sure enough, Maz hit into a triple play!

Oscar called it "The Curse of the Cat People."
