Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From what classic film would you find the phrase 'I meddled in things that man must leave alone'?

Answer: The Invisible Man

It was stated that to be invisible, you had to be nude. But when Jack Griffin was chased into the snow, he left shoe prints, not bare footprints. This was known as a blooper.
2. What was the name of the last movie in which Boris Karloff played the Frankenstein's monster?

Answer: Son of Frankenstein

Karloff vowed never to don the 'Frankenstein makeup again,' but he did wear it one last time, for a Halloween episode of the TV show 'Route 66'.
3. 'To die, to really be dead...that must be glorious.' What actor said these words in one of the early Universal classics?

Answer: Bela Lugosi

Bela turned down the role of Frankenstein's monster because the part had no dialogue. He later played that very role, though, in 'Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman.'
4. Universal teamed up Boris and Bela in such movies as 'The Raven' and 'The Black Cat', but what other classic were they both in that was not done by Universal?

Answer: The Body Snatcher

They were also in 'The Invisible Ray,' but that was a Universal picture.
5. Lon Chaney Sr. was known as the man of a thousand faces. The movie eventually made about him was appropriately called 'The Man of a Thousand Faces'. Who played the part of Lon Chaney?

Answer: James Cagney

Lon Chaney Sr. was well known for doing his own makeup. And when he played the Hunchback, he climbed the Notre Dame cathedral with no ropes or nets.
6. In 1940, Universal made a sequel to 'The Ivisible Man'. Who played The Invisible Man in 'The Invisible Man Returns'?

Answer: Vincent Price

Vincent Price established his horror film career with this film, but he did not return to the horror genre until 1953's 'House of Wax.'
7. In 'The Bride of Frankenstein', who played both The Bride and Mary Shelley?

Answer: Elsa Lanchester

To this day, pedants stubbornly insist that The Bride was not played by Elsa Lanchester, but by Valerie Hobson, based on the assumption that the title refers to the marriage of the doctor and not the monster.
8. There have been many movies made about Frankenstein's monster. What year was the first 'Frankenstein' movie made?

Answer: 1910

The monster was played by Charles Ogle, and the movie was directed and produced by Thomas Edison.
9. In 1942 Lionel Atwill played the mad doctor in 'The Strange case of Dr. X.' Who played the title role in 'The Return of Dr. X'?

Answer: Humphrey Bogart

Bogart in a horror film -- what more can I say?
10. In what movie can you find the phrase, 'The werewolf instinctively seeks to kill the thing it loves best'?

Answer: WereWolf of London

In January of 1935, Universal announced that 'WereWolf of London' would be Henry Hull's first starring film for the studio.
