Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the song "Sensitive New Age Guys," what item of information do sensitive new age guys NOT know?

Answer: Who plays in the Seattle Kingdome

When Christine Lavin performed this song as one of the "Four Bitchin' Babes," (On the live album "Buy Me Bring Me Take Me: Don't Mess My Hair!" one of her volunteer Sensitive New Age Guys actually knew the answer (The Seattle Mariners)! That's just not right.)
2. When visiting "The Santa Monica Pier," Christine always eats the avocados on her plate, even though she doesn't like them. Why?

Answer: She doesn't want to tempt fate

"No matter what it is I order, I know there's an avocado waiting on this plate. I don't like them, but I still eat them--I'm not tempting fate." Extra points if you have any idea what she's talking about--I sure don't!
3. According to Christine's lyrics, what do Crystal Gayle, Dorothy Hamill, Don King, Lyle Lovett and Gloria Steinem have in common?

Answer: They're prisoners of their hairdos

And Stevie Nicks, Leon Redbone, Pee Wee Herman, Tom Wolfe and Pope John Paul were all prisoners of their wardrobes. (From the song "Prisoners of their Hairdos" on the album "Compass.")
4. How did the song "Robert and Annie in Larchmont, New York" get its name?

Answer: Christine named it after the people who pledged the most money to a radio station.

The song is about mourning the passing of the passionate love people feel when they're young, and Robert wanted it named after him and his wife because they still felt that way. He paid $245 for the privilege. I would have too!
5. Why does Christine musically beg her boyfriend, "Please don't make me too happy?"

Answer: She won't be able to write good songs anymore

As we learn from the title track on the album "Please don't Make Me Too Happy," happiness would make her too stupid to write.
6. What is Christine talking about when she mournfully inquires, "What was I thinking?" (This question refers to the version on the album "Live at the Cactus Cafe.")

Answer: all of these

Christine has written several versions of this song over the years, including one about President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. "What was she thinking?"
7. One of Christine's most beautiful love songs is "The Kind of Love You Never Recover From." What is she afraid she'll become?

Answer: a regret

"Am I destined to be your regret? Are you that one I'll never forget?" Sniff, it's so sad.
8. Christine has wondered what life would be like if she ruled the world. What's one of the things she wants to make happen?

Answer: Invent a detector that tells you what's in a Cracker Jack box

Oh, life would be so interesting if Christine ruled the world! She would also add an extra five minutes to all of clocks, make every country drive on the same side of the street, and remove all cholesterol from all of our meat.
9. Christine has had some bad luck with writing songs that consequently become uncomfortable listening because of current events. Which song did Christine have to change or retire?

Answer: All of them

Christine's bad luck in this area hit rock bottom when she released "The Subway Series," a collection of songs about New York, in 1991. That would have been great, if it hadn't included "Doris and Edwin: The Movie," the song about the guy falling to his death from a skyscraper.

The Princess Di song, "Prince Charles," was retired after being performed on "Live at the Cactus Cafe," and the verse about the airplane exploding in "Regretting What I Said... was performed with that verse rewritten on the same album.
10. What kind of men does Christine especially love?

Answer: Bald Headed Men

"Bald Headed Men" from "Live at the Cactus Cafe," a very popular song with Christine's folky audiences. I don't know how Christine actually feels about bigger guys, but it's pretty clear that she's not particularly fond of the overly sensitive ("Sensitive New Age Guys" from "Attainable Love") or conservative ("We Are the True Americans" also from "Live at the Cactus Cafe") types.
