From The Who's 1969 Rock Opera - "Tommy".

Written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary, it was inspired by a poem penned by his Cornell University friend Leonard Lipton. The songwriters have always denied the Urban Legend that there are marijuana-smoking overtones to the song.
