Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start off with a relatively easy one. What does the lady buy to get to heaven?

Answer: Stairway

Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" released in 1971 is one of the most popular songs ever written constantly appearing in the ranks of best all-time songs.

"There's a lady whose sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven."
2. In Elton John's "Crocodile Rock", what kind of car did he have?

Answer: Old Gold Chevy

This song recorded in 1972 was one of my first favorite Elton John songs. I just love the use of the Kazoo in the middle of the song.

"Had an Ol' Gold Chevy
and a place of my own
but the biggest kick i ever got
was doin' a thing called the crocodile rock"
3. What took John Denver home to West Virginia?

Answer: Country Roads

"Take me hooooome
Country roads
To the place I beloooong
West Virginia...lalala"
This song from 1972 went to #2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
4. What car was driven to the dry levee in 'American Pie'?

Answer: Chevy

Here's that Chevy again, a real part of folklore. Don McLean's 'Bye Bye Miss American Pie' was written in 1971.

"Drove my Chevy to the levee
but the levee was dry"
5. What ol' car did Archie and Edith Bunker praise in their song "Those Were the Days'?

Answer: La Salle

'Those Were the Days' was the theme song for the hit 1970's sitcom 'All in the Family'.
The La Salle was a G.M. car discontinued in 1940.
"Gee, our ol' La Salle ran great
Those were the days."
6. How was Gus told to leave in '50 Ways to Leave Your Lover'?

Answer: Hop on the bus

"Slip out the back, Jack
Drop off the key, Lee
Don't need to be coy, Roy"
and of course - "Hop on the bus, Gus"
A big hit for Paul Simon.
7. In John Denver's 'Leaving on a Jet Plane', famously recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary, how are they getting to the jet plane?

Answer: Taxi

Yup, you got it! This 1966-7 song, written by John Denver, was later recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary who took it to the top of the charts.

"Taxi's waitin'
He's blowin' his horn"
8. In the big hit, "House of the Rising Sun", recorded by The Animals in 1964, how does he go back to New Orleans?

Answer: Train

"...Got one foot on the train to go back to New Orleans to wear a ball and chain."
This song was recorded by The Animals though was written much earlier. There is much dispute as to its origin - even disputing about the century in which it was written.
9. In 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon', sung by Tony Orlando and Dawn, how did the hero of the song return home?

Answer: Bus

This song was revived with the return of the hostages from Iran.
I always loved the part when "...The whole damn bus is cheering
And I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons round the old oak tree."
10. On their epic album, 'Night at the Opera', Queen sings about a love affair with what?

Answer: Car

"I'm In Love with my Car", taking a 'back seat' to "Bohemian Rhapsody", is a guy's serenade about his new 4-wheeled love. Women move over - know where the priorities are(as long as my wife doesn't see me write this).

"Told my girl I'll have to forget her
Rather buy me a new carburetor."
11. If what's on time can you get to work by nine according to B.T.O?

Answer: Train

That's right! That's the way to be "Takin' Care of Business".
A B.T.O. hit in 1973, was actually written before B.T.O. was a group.

"and if your train's on time
you can get to work by nine..."
12. What did Billy Joel trade in to get his Cadillac-ack-ack-ack?

Answer: Chevy

Yup, here she is again - our favorite Chevy.
"Movin' Out", the name of the song was also the name of a movie using only Billy Joel songs.

"And he's tradin' in his Chevy for
A Cadillac ack ack ack ack ack."
13. The Yellow Brick Road will lead Dorothy where?

Answer: To the Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz, residing in the Emerald City, was supposed to have helped Dorothy find her way back home to Kansas. All they had to do to locate him was to... "follow the yellow brick road
follow the yellow brick road
follow, follow, follow, follow
follow the yellow brick road..."
14. Which path did the Beatles tell us leads to your door?

Answer: Long and Winding Road

This was the last single released (in 1970) by the Fab Four before their breakup.

"The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear"
15. In the Steppenwolf hit 'Born to be Wild' where does he head out to find adventure?

Answer: Highway

Recorded in 1967, it became a hit song quickly, apparently describing a biker who is lookin' for adventure. The song describes a biker's experience though it never actually mentions a bike.

"Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way"
