Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which Soundgarden album can these lyrics be found "You have a good day, It's not your fault, I know it hurts"?

Answer: Louder Than Love

According to a magazine interview the song is taken straight from a note Hiro Yamamoto's girlfriend left him one morning before she went to work.
2. The ever haunting line "Innocence creates my hell" can be found in a song by which classic grunge pioneers?

Answer: Alice In Chains

Layne Staley didn't write a lot of the lyrics for the first two albums, though his songs have always been live favourites: "Angry Chair", "Man In The Box" (which was their first big surprise hit), "Again" and "Love, Hate, Love" was always a live favourite. Layne put on a haunting performance for every time they played this song, it clearly meant a lot to him.
3. On which classic Nirvana album does Kurt Cobain deliver the disturbing line "Peepee pressed against my lip"?

Answer: Bleach

Cobain was known to be quite arrogant about his band, often citing other grunge bands as imitators - though Nirvana were not the first grunge band at all. I've found that Cobain's "look" is very similar to that of Mark Arm's in his Green River days, and the album cover to "Bleach" is coincidentally very similar to that of Soundgarden's "Ultramega OK" album...
4. "She holds the hand that holds her down" can be heard in a hugely popular acoustic hit by which Seattle band?

Answer: Pearl Jam

When Pearl Jam's "Vs" record was first released it was simply called "Pearl Jam" - with a memorable album cover - though it was later re-issued with the title "Vs" printed on the side.
5. Stone Temple Pilots - a hugely popular band around during the grunge era - were slammed by critics, being branded as Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains wannabe's, especially due to similarities with their and Pearl Jam's second album. Their second album featured a rather bizzare picture on the front cover and had no title - though some fans referred to it as "12 Gracious melodies" due to the writing on the back cover. What colour is the album more widely referred to as?

Answer: Purple

"12 Gracious Melodies" is written on the back cover but when you look at the track listing on the booklet inside the case there are only eleven tracks listed. The bizarre twelveth track is hidden, playing at the end of "Kitchen Ware & Candy Bars".
6. "How is it that you're feeling so uneasy? How is it that I feel fine?" is a brilliant line written by Layne Staley for which song - and which band?

Answer: "I'm Above" by Mad Season

Mad Season was Layne Staley's side project from Alice In Chains - Jerry Cantrell went and recorded "Boggy Depot" as a solo project - Mad Season also featured grunge guitarist Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.
7. In the underrated song from Mother Love Bone - "Man Of Golden Words", what does Any Wood claim are his "only tools?"

Answer: "Words and Music"

The tribute band Temple Of The Dog were named after a lyric from the song "Man Of Golden Words".
8. "Virgin eyes and dirty looks" is a lyric taken from which classic grunge band?

Answer: Soundgarden

Chris Cornell told various interviewers for "Classic Rock" and "Kerrang!" magazine that when he joined Audioslave, the band would not perform any of their past songs from Rage Against The Machine or Soundgarden onstage until the release of their second album as they did not want to seem to rely on the success of their former bands' glory for their new band to thrive.
9. Finish the lyrics to this early grunge favourite from Nirvana's debut album "Bleach": "Won't you believe it, it's just my luck..."

Answer: No Recess

According to "Kerrang!" magazine, Nirvana were set to play on stage at a music awards show before Guns N' Roses and upon hearing Axl Rose was to play "November Rain" - Cobain and Rose had had previous altercations with each other over Courteney Love and Axl's controversially homophobic lyrics in the last song on the "GNR Lies" EP - Kurt spat on the piano he assumed Axl would be performing on...though it turned out to belong to Elton John!
10. Since the Seattle grunge scene faded away into rock history, a few bands have come about with obvious Seattle influences and been dubbed "post-grunge", one of which had a massive hit with the song "Blurry" in 2002. What is the name of the band?

Answer: Puddle Of Mudd

Puddle Of Mudd were discovered by Limp Bizkit's frontman Fred Durst. Thank you for taking my first quiz.
