Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "...Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live."

Answer: "In Christ Alone"

Stuart Townend was born in West Yorkshire, England, in 1963. His father was a Church of England vicar.

"In Christ Alone" was jointly written with Keith Getty, a native of Northern Ireland. Townend wrote the lyrics and Getty composed the music.

It was often sung as a congregational hymn during worship services and in 2005, it was placed as the ninth best loved hymn of all time in the UK in a BBC "Songs of Praise" survey.

The following year it was number one on the United Kingdom CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) charts. It has also appeared in the CCLI's top 25 in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the USA.
2. "I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection..."

Answer: "How Deep The Father's Love For Us"

"How Deep The Father's Love For Us" is another Stuart Towend song that is frequently song by church congregations. (I have even heard it sung at a funeral service, without it seeming out of place.)
3. "Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, Slain for us: and we remember: The promise made that all who come in faith Find forgiveness at the cross."

Answer: "Communion Hymn"

"Communion Hymn" was co-written by Stuart Townend with Keith and Kristyn Getty.

In an interview with BMS World Mission, Townsend said: "Am I really narrowing people's understanding of who God is by always singing about a very narrow series of themes, or am I, in my worship-leading at my local church, presenting a broad picture of who God is? Am I not only talking about his love and faithfulness, but am I talking about his mercy, his justice, his compassion and his heart for the world?

"I think it's important for all of us who are involved in church music to be thinking through those things and thinking: am I presenting a fully-formed picture of who God is?"
4. "Oh, to see the dawn Of the darkest day, Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, Torn and beaten, then Nailed to a cross of wood."

Answer: "The Power Of The Cross"

"Power Of The Cross" was jointly written with Keith Getty.

Keith Getty was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland in 1974. Well known compositions include "In My Father's House", "I Will Trust", "Cross of Jesus" and "All My Life". All were written with his wife, Krystin.

In 2017, he was appointed OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire.)
5. "And I will trust in You alone, And I will trust in You alone, For Your endless mercy follows me, Your goodness will lead me home."

Answer: "The Lord's My Shepherd"

The song is based on the 23rd Psalm.

In an interview with 'BMS World Mission', Stuart Townsend was asked if he thought congregational worship music was too narrow in theological or musical terms. He responded: "I think on both counts we could be broader. In terms of content, I love what has happened in terms of the outpouring of new songs over the last 30 years or so. There are probably more Christian songs being written right now as we speak than have ever been written in the history of the Church. And I think it's wonderful. But I do think, in terms of content, we can get quite narrow. Certain musical styles and certain themes can dominate.

He went on to say: "I think we need more songs that tell the story of the Christian faith, tell the story of what Jesus said and did and what's in the Bible. Because, actually, our faith is not based on some vague concept of what God might be like; it's based on human history, on things that actually happened on planet earth. So, I think things like that are important: certain themes that need to challenge us."
6. "All my days I will sing this song of gladness, Give my praise to the Fountain of delights; For in my helplessness You heard my cry, And waves of mercy poured down on my life."

Answer: "Beautiful Savour"

Stuart Townend began to learn piano at the age of seven.
As well as writing songs, he performed in concert worldwide.
7. "I'll set my gaze on God alone And trust in Him completely; With every day pour out my soul And He will prove His mercy.

Answer: "My Soul Finds Rest"

Jointly written with Aaron Keys, the song is based on Psalm 62.

Interviewed by Crosswalk.com on his faith and his music, Stuart Townend was asked what it was compelled him to write new songs for worship. He replied: "I'm really motivated by the opportunity to put truth into the mouths and hearts of people through a song. Truth is so vital-the truth about God and about how He sees us-it needs to be the foundation of our worship times. Truth brings revelation, and revelation brings change in our lives."
8. "Through present sufferings, future's fear, He whispers 'courage' in my ear. For I am safe in everlasting arms, And they will lead me home."
