Loretta Webb was born on April 14, 1934 in Butcher Holler, Kentucky. She is the second of eight children born to Ted and Clara Webb. Loretta married Oliver Lynn, whom everyone called 'Doolittle' when she was fifteen years old. Doo, as Loretta called him, gave her a guitar for her eighteenth birthday.

He noticed how well she could sing and thought that she should try to get into singing. Loretta got her big break when she was entered into a talent contest and took home first prize.
