Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Paul McCartney: "And when the cupboard's bare/I still find something there with __ ____."

Answer: my love

The song is "My Love," an early hit for Paul on his own. It's on the "Red Rose Speedway" album, released in April 1973.
2. "They burned down the gambling house/It died with an _____ _____." What are the last two words of this line from this song by Deep Purple?

Answer: awful sound

"It died with an awful sound," from "Smoke on the Water," by Deep Purple, released May 1973. The gambling house was in Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline in Switzerland.
3. From "YMCA": "You can hang out with all ___ ____." What are the last two words?

Answer: the boys

They were called the Village People because they were supposedly from Greenwich Village and they dressed in the style of icons of gay sexuality: the cop, cowboy, soldier, hard hat, etc. So if their songs were homoerotic, that shouldn't be a surprise. According to the song, the "Y" has "Everything for young men to enjoy/You can hang out with all the boys." You can make of that what you will! Released May 1978.
4. "You're a teaser you turn 'em on/Leave them burning and then you're ____." Fill in the missing lyric.

Answer: gone

Abba's "Dancing Queen" was one of the top disco hits of the seventies, released Dec. '76. The group was from Sweden, and you probably know this, but what the heck: Their name was an acronym of the initials of their first names; Agnetha (Faltskog), Bjorn (Ulvaeus), Benny (Andersson), and Annifrid (Lyngstad). If they had used their last initials, they could have been FUAL or LUFA or, if they dared, AFUL.
5. Can you finish this line? "Song sung blue, every garden _____ ___."

Answer: grows one

"Song sung blue/Everybody knows one/Song sung blue/Every garden grows one." Neil Diamond did this one for his "Moods" album in 1972.
6. "Come Monday it'll be all right/Come Monday, I'll be _______ ___ _____." What are those last three words?

Answer: holding you tight

One of Jimmy Buffett's first hits, this song was released in 1974 and was on his fourth album, "Living and Dying in 3/4 Time." Jimmy's fans are called Parrotheads, and license plates reading "Parrothead" are often seen on the front of Florida cars. The Sunshine State doesn't require a front plate, allowing us Floridians to be creative with our front bumpers.
7. "Started out this morning feeling so polite/I always thought a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite/But you've got some bait a-waitin' and I think I might try nibbling/A little _________ _______/Skyrockets in flight..." What two words go in the blanks?

Answer: afternoon delight

"Afternoon Delight," by the Starland Vocal Band, no less, went gold in 1976 and just wouldn't go away, no matter how hard you prayed.
8. What's the title of this song: "Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam/Do the jitterbug out in the muskrat land/And they shimmy/And Sammy's so skinny"?

Answer: Muskrat Love

Both America and the Captain (Darryl Dragon) and (Toni) Tennille recorded this one. And then there was Dr. Demento's version: "Hamster Love," about chowin' down on those rascally rodents: "You can dice, you can slice and fillet them/Cut off their heads and saute them/And into the oven you shove/Smells like hamster love." I smell a Grammy!
9. "It's so hard to explain/Everything that I'm feelin'/Face to face I just seem to go dry/But I love you so much/That the sound of your voice can ___ __ ____." What are those last three words?

Answer: get me high

"After the Lovin'" was a huge hit for Englebert Humperdinck (Gerry Dorsey) in 1976. Engle was a Tom Jones type, big in Vegas and the like.
10. "She's got electric boots a mohair suit/You know I read it in a magazine/______ ___ ___ ____." What are the four missing words.

Answer: Bennie and the Jets

"Bennie and the Jets," written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, was on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," released in 1973. The song also mentions Candy and Ronnie. Wonder who all these folks were! Sources: "Rock On Almanac" by Norm N. Nite.
