Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1986 a group named Militia came out with a record on the Scythe label. What is the title of this record?

Answer: The Sybling

Militia released their record titled "The Sybling" in 1986 on the private Scythe label. The band was from Austin, Texas. The record is a three song EP that was a 12 inch and it played at 45 RPM. Only 100 copies were pressed, making it a true rarity upon release.
Today "The Sybling" is one of the most sought after metal records in existence. I saw one sell for $3,000.00 which is $1,000.00 per song. This rarity has been reissued on CD and vinyl with bonus tracks. The vinyl also has a four page insert and poster. These reissues are very affordable.
Songs on the original EP are "Objective: Termination" & "Salem Square" on the A side. "The Sybling" is the lone song on the B side and it is divided into five parts. I. "The Birth", II. "The Arrival", III. "The World Accepts Evil", IV. "Evil Through The Ages", and V. "The Second Coming".
2. In 1985 a band out of Chicago released a record on the Silver Fin label. The band was Paradoxx. What is the title of their record?

Answer: Plan Of Attak

In 1985 Paradoxx released their record titled "Plan Of Attak". It was released on the private Silver Fin label. The record is a four song EP and is one of the most sought after metal records in the world.
The most money I noticed a copy sell for was $2,950.00. I'm not sure about a vinyl reissue but there is a CD reissue that was released and it is very affordable. Original copies are extremely rare due to the fact that the band destroyed most copies because they were disappointed their record was not selling. Upon the release of "Plan Of Attak", the band handed copies out to their friends and to radio stations. These copies are the only reason that originals have survived at all.
Songs on this EP are "Don't Let Go", "Unleashed", Live Free Or Die", and "Black Siren".
3. In 1984 a metal band named Graven Image released a one sided vinyl EP on a private label. What was the name of their extremely rare EP?

Answer: People In Hell Want Ice Water

In 1984 Graven Image released their one sided 12 inch EP titled "People In Hell Want Ice Water". There were 200 copies pressed on the private Rockhaus label. Only two songs are on this EP and both were on the same side. The songs were "No Rest" and "Warn The Children". I saw a few copies of this sell, with the highest price being $1291.00. Copies came with a one page insert of lyrics and liner notes.
This EP was reissued in 1987 on a vinyl picture disc with three songs on it. The same three songs were on both sides. This reissue is affordable with the price being between $50.00 - $100.00. There is also a reissue CD titled "People In Hell Still Want Ice Water" which as 12 songs on it.
Don't confuse this band with the Graven Image from the 1990s.
From the LP: "If the metal is good we have a responsibility to bring it to the people as artists; no matter what the price against all odds" this one's for the people!
- Graven Image
4. This band put out an LP in 1986 on a private Key Records label. They called themselves Leather Nunn. What's the name of their full length LP?

Answer: Take The Night

In 1986 Leather Nunn released their "Take The Night" LP on the Key Records label. It's described as a cult classic. If you like bands such as Lizzie Borden, Malice, Phantom, Chastain, Leatherwolf, Hellion, and Banshee, you should really dig Leather Nunn.

The music is is in your face, straight ahead, head banging metal. The guitar is wailing and the vocals are aggressive. There were 500 copies released of the original pressing and I've seen them sell for as much as $1580.00. "Take The Night" is their only LP. This LP has been reissued on CD and vinyl with bonus tracks.

The CD is on the Metal Reunion Records label. The limited edition black box vinyl reissue, on the Shiva Records label, was released in an edition of 100. I find most of my records and CDs on eBay, Discogs, and Amazon.
5. The metal band Liquid Earth released a record in 1984 on a private label called Co-Op Records out of California. What is the name of their record?

Answer: Molten Rock

Liquid Earth released their record in 1984 on the Co-Op Records label. It was a 12 inch EP with only two songs on it. One song is titled "Molten Rock" and the other is "Lion's Den". A friend of mine paid $1500.00 for a copy on eBay. On October 5, 2014 another copy sold on eBay for $1599.99.

There were not many copies of "Molten Rock" made. Only eight or ten copies have surfaced. Liquid Earth also released a 45 RPM record with the same two songs as the 12 inch EP on it. I've seen it fetch $800.00. In 2010 Liquid Earth was reissued on CD.

There are two different reissues. One is titled "Rock & Roll Experience". It has 12 songs on it but only one song from their EP is on it which is "Liquid Earth". "Lion's Den" is not on this CD. However, the second reissue titled "Adventurer", contains "Lion's Den".

It does not however, have "Liquid Earth" on it. "Adventurer" also has a total of 12 songs on it.
6. In 1988 a U.S. band named RAF released a metal LP on a private label out of Peru, South America. What is the title of this LP?

Answer: Hammer To The Wall

In 1988 the band RAF out of Indianapolis, Indiana released 100 copies of their LP titled "Hammer To The Wall". It was released on Delta Records out of Peru. RAF was originally called Scoundrel which was formed in Indianapolis in 1984. By 1985 they changed their name to RAF.
RAF was offered a tour in Peru which they accepted. This was February of 1987 and the tour was extremely successful. The band lost a couple of members who were promptly replaced, and in August and September of 1988, they toured Peru once again. Aside from stage performances, RAF appeared on numerous TV shows. Evidently, this is how RAF wound up on a Peruvian record label.
This highly regarded LP has songs on it such as "Punishment", "Search And Destroy", and "Fist Of God". The most I've seen a copy sell for is $1525.00.
7. In 1984 a Chicago metal band named Amethyst released a private press record with four songs on it. What is the name of the record?

Answer: Outside Of Nowhere

In 1984 the Chicago metal band Amethyst released their 12 inch four song EP titled "Outside Of Nowhere". Only 100 promotional copies were pressed on the Pacific Records label. There isn't a lot of information available about this band. They were too obscure and too much underground.
I've seen about six copies of this EP change hands with the highest amount paid being $2371.00. Songs on this EP are "Outside Of Nowhere", "Tonight Will Rock", "With You", and "Goddess In The Light".
8. A metal band named Venom released a copy of an LP on a private label named Neat Records, that sold for $4007.00. Which of the below is that megarare LP?

Answer: Black Metal on red/black marble vinyl

In 1982 Venom released their "Black Metal" LP on the private Neat Records label. There were several variances of that pressing. The one here is the red and black marble vinyl edition. There are only two copies of this LP that exist in the entire world.

It sold for 3511 euros which at the time was the equivalent of $4007.00 U.S. This is also the first pressing that has embossed lettering on the cover. Slayer is an English band and "Black Metal" is their second release. The music is thrash metal.

In 1982 metal music was at its peak in England. This was when the N.W.O.B.H.M. (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) was really taking off. Venom went on to influence many different metal bands.
9. This question is about a proto metal band from 1976 named Bad Axe. The label was Earth Breeze. What is the LP title?

Answer: Bad Axe (Self Titled)

In 1976 Bad Axe had some demo copies of their self titled ("Bad Axe") LP pressed up. There are about 10 known copies that have surfaced which may have been all that was pressed. The label is Earth Breeze.
Aside from the rarity factor, what makes this a special LP, is that Dave Carruth was the guitarist and he later went on to the band Bitch. Also, Dana Strum was on bass. He later went on to Vinnie Vincent Invasion and Slaughter.
Bad Axe isn't out and out metal but is considered proto metal. I've read that he music is supposed to sound like Black Sabbath meets Deep Purple with excellent dual lead guitars.
This LP has been reissued on vinyl and is very affordable. The sound quality is even better than the original pressing. I recall seeing a few copies of the original LP for sale when they were first found and they sold for well over $1,000.00. Don't confuse this band with the Bad Axe metal band who released an LP titled "Contradiction To The Rule" in 1986.
10. In 1984 a band named Wyzard from San Antonio, Texas released an EP on a private label named Pazuzu Records. What is this LP's title?

Answer: Future Knights

In 1984 Wyzard released their EP titled "Future Knights" on the private Pazuzu Records label. The band was out of San Antonio, Texas. This EP has four songs on it, which are "Future Knights", "Renegade", "Crystal City", and "Knights Of Metal". I saw a copy of "Future Knights" sell for $1825.00. On January fifth of 2015 the No Remorse Records label released a reissue of this rare record.

It's a box set and only 100 hand numbered copies were released. The set contains a CD/DVD, a Future Knights T-Shirt, and a Wyzard Logo Patch. All four songs from the original EP are on the reissue as well as one bonus track titled "Breaking The Spell".

The DVD has a 10 song live show on it that Wyzard played in 1983. No Remorse also released a CD/DVD only reissue that is very affordable.
