Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Guns N' Roses

Answer: Coma

"Coma" was released at 10 minutes and 13 seconds long in 1991. Axl Rose and Slash wrote the song and it was released on the "Use your Illusion I" album.
2. Pink Floyd

Answer: Dogs

"You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need...". This is the beginning of the 17 minute song that was released on the "Animals" album in 1977. Other songs on the album were "Sheep" at over 10 minutes and "Pigs".
3. The Doors

Answer: The End

The song was written by Jim Morrison coming in at just over 11 minutes. The song was used for the opening scenes for "Apocalypse Now" with Marlon Brando in 1979. The song was shortened to just over 6 minutes for the movie version.
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd

Answer: Free Bird

A band name with no vowels. A song with two versions, with the longest being just over 9 minutes. I don't know one person who doesn't like this song. This song has been in over 35 movies, my favorite of course is "Forrest Gump". The song was released in 1974 and has been wowing audiences since then.
5. The Rolling Stones

Answer: Can't You Hear Me Knocking

This song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song was released in 1971 and was just over 7 minutes long. This song was also in the movie, "Casino" with Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone.
6. Bruce Springsteen

Answer: Jungleland

"The Rangers had a homecoming in Harlem late last night..." is how this 1975 song starts. The song is on the album, "Born to Run". The song comes in at just under 10 minutes. Bruce. also known as "The Boss", wrote the song himself.
7. Don McLean

Answer: American Pie

This was one of my favorite songs growing up. "Drove the Chevy to the levee..." just makes me want to belt out "Bye bye Miss American Pie". The song was released in 1971 and re-released again 20 years later. The song was divided in two but the combination of both totaled over 8 minutes.

Many artists have had songs titled "American Pie", but nothing will ever come close to the original by Don.
8. The Beatles

Answer: Hey Jude

The song was written by Paul McCartney, but it was sort of written for John Lennon's son, as John went through the divorce stages with Cynthia. "Hey Jude" was released in 1968 and was 7 minutes in length. The song made it to the top of the charts for 9 weeks in the US.
9. The Trammps

Answer: Disco Inferno

You can't have a quiz on songs without at least one song from "Saturday Night Fever". The Trammps released the song in 1976. The song was a hit at over 10 minutes long. The song was released a year before the film in 1977, but the song had all of us dancing like Tony Manero at the clubs.
10. Eagles

Answer: Hotel California

The song was released in 1977 at just over 6 minutes. I was surprised to hear that Paul did not write the song, but Don Felder, Don Henley and Glenn Frey did. The song won a Grammy in 1978.
