Laurie London born in Bethnal Green, London, England, was 13 years old and still a pupil at The Davenant Foundation Grammar School when he recorded "He's Got The Whole World (In His Hands)" in 1957. It peaked at number 12 on the UK Singles Chart that year.

Although he worked with record producers such as Norman Newell and George Martin at Abbey Road studios and made many recordings, he never had another chart hit in the UK or US.

Chubby Checker had a minor hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Let's Do The Freddie" which peaked at number 40 in 1965.
