Elvis was singing "Rock-A-Hula Baby (Twist Special)" from the movie Blue Hawaii. This song his first UK number one of 1962, only reached number 23 in the US.

Chubby Checker was still twisting in the UK charts in 1962 with the re-entry of "The Twist" and "Let's Twist Again". They re-entered the UK chart as a double A-side in 1975 and reached number five. Joey Dee and The Starliters "Peppermint Twist" reached number 33 on the UK chart and number one in the US in 1962. Danny and The Juniors only had one chart hit in the UK "At The Hop". It reached number three in 1958 and number 39 in 1976 but they were "Twistin' All Night Long" to number 68 in the US chart in 1962.

Pat Boone had many UK & US chart hits in the 50's & 60's including one UK number one and six number one's in the US. His last top ten UK hit was "Speeay Gonzales" at number two. Gene Chandler had a US number one in 1962 with "Duke Of Earl" which never entered the UK chart. He had to wait until 1968 to reach number 41 with "Nothing Can Stop Me"

Sir Cliff & The Shadows sang about "The Young Ones" from the movie of the same name. It was Cliff's best selling UK single. It entered the UK chart at number one and sold over a million in the UK.

The Bachelors from Ireland had eight UK top ten hits in the 60's including a number one "Diane" in 1964. The Crickets, after the death of Buddy Holly had nine UK chart hits between 1959 and 1964. These included a number five with "Don't Ever Change" but never had a US chart hit. Chad & Jeremy only had one minor chart hit in the UK "Yesterday's Gone" at number 37 in 1963. They had a lot more chart hits in the US, reaching number seven with "A Summer Song" in 1964.

The song was "Lovesick Blues" by Frank Ifield, his second number one of the year and it got to number 44 on the US chart.

Frank Sinatra had many hits records before the pop charts started and then had three number one's in the UK & US. He was not doing to well in 1962 with "Me And My Shadow" a duet with Sammy Davis Jr. This reached number 20 in the UK and number 64 in the US. Frankie Valli was the lead singer with the very successful Four Seasons. He had two solo UK top ten hits in the 70's "My Eyes Adored You" and "Grease" which both became US number one's. Frankie Laine had number one hits in the US from 1947 before the pop charts began. He had four number one UK hits in the 50's including 18 weeks at number one with "I Believe".

Yes,it's Elvis again with "Return To Sender". This is one of my favourite Elvis records. It was his fourth number one of the year but spent five weeks stuck at number two in the US.

Bobby Vee was very popular on both sides of the pond in the early 60's. He hit the number one spot in the US with "Take Good Care Of My Baby" in 1961. He never had a number one in the UK but had seven top ten hits. Ben E.King was the lead singer with The Drifters before going solo. He had a US number four hit with "Stand By Me" in 1961 but it only reached number 27 in the UK. Re-released in 1986 after being featured in the movie of the same name, it got to number one in the UK in 1987 and number nine in the US in 1986. Vince Hill had some minor UK hits in the 60's but hit the number two spot in the UK with "Edelweiss" in 1967.

Benny Hill had a number of comedy records in the UK charts in 1961 and 1963. He scored a number one hit in 1971 with "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)". Dinah Washington and Brook Benton, two great singers in their own right, collaborated on two records. "Baby (You Got What It Takes" a US number five and "A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around And Fall In Love)" a US number seven in 1960 both missed the UK chart.

Don Gibson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Roy Orbison recorded the song for his 1961 album "Lonely and Blue" He also recorded an album "Roy Orbison sings Don Gibson" in 1967. Band leader, jazz pianist and organist Count Basie had a instrumental US number 77 hit with the song in 1963.

Bruce Channel had a UK number two and a US number one with "Hey! Baby" in 1962. He never got near again until 1968 when he had a UK number 12 with "Keep On". Tommy Roe had a UK number three and a US number one with "Sheila" in 1962. He had to wait until 1969 for his first UK number one and second US number one "Dizzy". UK teen idol of the early 60's Craig Douglas had a UK number one in 1959 with a cover of Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen". Between April 61 and June 62 he had four consecutive UK number nine hits.

"I Remember You" sang Frank Ifield, his first of two UK number one's in 1962. It reached number five in the US. Frank was born in Coventry, England but was raised in Australia.

Adam Faith reached the top of the UK chart with his first two chart hits, "What Do You Want" in 1959 and "Poor Me" in 1960. He then had a further nine UK top ten hits. Brian Hyland had two UK top ten hits in 1962. "Ginny Come Lately" at number five and "Sealed With A Kiss" at number 3. They reached number 21 and three in the US. Danny Williams had a UK number one in 1961 with a cover of "Moon River". His "Wonderful World Of The Young" hit number eight in the UK in 1962.

"She's Not You" was the song and it's Elvis again with his third UK number one of 1962. With only 12 UK number one's this year, Elvis had a good year with four number one's. He spent 15 weeks at number one and also had a double A-side number one hit.

The Beatles had not even reached the UK charts when "She's Not You" was number one. They entered the UK chart on October 11 1962 with "Love Me Do" which got to number 17 and the rest as they say, is history. The Beach Boys entered the UK chart even later on August 1 1963 with "Surfin' U.S.A" which got to number 34. One of my favourite Beach boy records "Fun Fun Fun" never even made the UK chart. Jackie Wilson first entered the UK chart in 1957 with "Reet Petite" which made it to number six. It re-entered the UK chart in 1986 and went all the way to number one.
