Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which singer and movie star performed in the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast live by satellite around the world?

Answer: Elvis Presley

Elvis officially died August 16 1977, aged 42 of a heart attack, but many fans maintain that he faked his own death either in order to live a more peaceful life or, because he had helped the FBI bring down a group known as "The Fraternity, he was about to be killed by the Mafia and so entered witness protection. Since his death, he has been spotted at "Burger King" in Kalamazoo, Memphis airport, several times at Graceland and even as an extra in the movie "Home Alone".
2. Cranberry sauce and a zebra crossing gave rise to the popular theory that this star died in a car crash in 1967. Who is (or was) the star?

Answer: Paul McCartney

Conspiracy theorists are convinced that Lennon can be heard saying "I buried Paul" on "Strawberry Fields Forever", even though Lennon remembered saying "cranberry sauce" at the recording session. Couple this with the fact that on the Beatles "Abbey Road" album cover, John is wearing white representing heaven, George is in denim (gravedigger), Ringo is dressed all in black, (undertaker) and Paul is barefoot and out of step with the others, symbolising the corpse and the proof is pretty compelling...or not.
3. Who authored the books "20 Hrs., 40 Min." in 1928 and "The Fun of It" in 1932 as well as setting an autogyro altitude record of 18,415 feet in 1931?

Answer: Amelia Earhart

Earhart's plane went missing over the Pacific Ocean, en route to Howland Island on July 2nd 1937 and the wreckage was never found. She was declared dead on July 5th 1939 but many people claim she actually crash landed in the Marshall Islands, was taken prisoner by the Japanese military and died whilst being held prisoner on the island of Saipan. Believers point to the fact that metal fragments similar to the make up of Earhart's plane were found on the islands in 2015 and in 2017 a photograph taken after her disappearance, was discovered in the National Archives and shows what may well be Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan.
4. Which great grand-daughter of Queen Victoria was voiced in a Don Bluth movie by Kirsten Dunst and Meg Ryan?

Answer: Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia

Dunst provided the voice for eight year old Anastasia while Ryan was the adult portrayal in the 1997 animated movie "Anastasia". The real Anastasia was 17 when she was murdered along with the rest of her family by Bolsheviks on July 17th 1918. Following her death, psychiatric patient Anna Anderson began telling people that she was Anastasia and has escaped the Bolsheviks by feigning death.

Her case had many supporters and in 1938 she filed a claim to be legally recognised as Anastasia, resulting in the longest running German court hearing, lasting until 1970 when it was decided that she had not furnished sufficient proof.

She continued to repeat her claims however until her death in 1984 and in 1994, DNA tests were carried out which showed that she was not Anastasia, although conspiracy theorists reject the results, believing that Anderson's DNA wasn't used.
5. "Black Star", "Forbidden Rose" and "Wild Rose" are perfumes released by the designer of the "Abbey Dawn" clothing line. Who is this designer that died or didn't in 2003?

Answer: Avril Lavigne

According to internet super sleuths, the evidence of Lavigne's death and replacement by a look-a-like is obvious. They point to the fact that her lyrics have grown darker since 2003, when she was a teenager along with the fact that her look has changed from skater punk to sophisticated 30 something. Also, her second album was called "Under My Skin" and the album's colour scheme was black and red suggesting mourning and blood, but probably most compelling is the fact that in 2002, her height was listed at 1.58m, but post 2003 it was 1.55m. Seems totally believable to me.
6. Who played the role of ranch hand Jett Rink in the 1956 movie "Giant"?

Answer: James Dean

Dean died in a car accident on September 30th 1955 and "Giant", also starring Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson was released after his death, but according to conspiracy theorists, his death was staged in order to boost his career. They maintain that following the car crash, in which he was seriously injured, a paralysed Dean would be box office poison, whereas a dead Dean would be box office gold. Adding weight to their theory was the reconstruction of the accident which suggested that the damage had been too light for a high-speed crash and would not have killed the driver.
7. "This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours" in 1998 was the first album by The Manic Street Preachers to not feature lyrics written by who?

Answer: Richey Edwards

Edwards disappeared on February 1st 1995 and on February 14th, his car was discovered with a flat battery near the Severn Bridge, a notorious suicide spot. In 2008 he was declared dead "in absentia" but since his disappearance he has been spotted several times in Goa, India, as well as in tourist hot spots such as Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Up to 2005, the remaining three members of the Manic Street Preachers, paid 25% of all royalties into an account for Edwards, in case he decided to return.
8. Convicted in 1964 of the attempted bribery of a grand juror and fraud, which Teamster had his 13 year sentence commuted by President Nixon, after just five years?

Answer: Jimmy Hoffa

Upon his release from prison, Hoffa hoped to return to union activities, although he was banned from such until 1980. He never got the chance though as he disappeared in July 1975, after going to a meeting with two well known mafia leaders. He was declared dead "in absentia" in 1982 but many people believe he entered witness protection after attempting to help the FBI convict these mafia bosses.

More likely is that the mob got to him before the FBI, but either way, his body has not been found.
9. Which native of Calgary, Alberta played the part of high school quarterback Finn Hudson in the TV show "Glee" and died in 2013?

Answer: Cory Monteith

Monteith died from a mixture of heroin and alcohol but many believe his death was faked by Fox to revitalise the show. Among the claims made are that Monteith was gay and his romance with co star Lea Michelle was faked to improve ratings but that didn't work, so the next best thing was the death of a star.

He has been "seen" several times since his death dining in his favourite restaurant in Calgary as well as in many cities around the world.
10. Which infamous historical figure was born on 20th April 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria-Hungary and allegedly lived in Argentina and Colombia after his death?

Answer: Adolf Hitler

According to conspiracy theorists, Hitler and Eva Braun escaped from the Allies by U boat and made it to Argentina where he stayed as a guest of Juan and Eva Peron. Here, they along with other escaped Nazis plotted a fourth reich but Eva grew tired of this and left Hitler in 1954, taking their daughter Ursula with her. Other theories have Hitler landing in Colombia, but moving to Argentina in 1955 after the CIA received a tip off about his Colombian location from a former SS member.

Another conspiracy theory focuses on a mysterious flight from Prague to Barcelona shortly before the Red Army reached his bunker and that theory claims that he escaped in 1947.
