Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Born April 11, 1897, Mary Josephine Coughlin, known as 'Mae', had married what mobster and subsequently told their son many times, "not to do what your father did. He broke my heart." Who was her notorious gangster husband?

Answer: Al Capone

After three years of marriage, Mae had grown so fed up with Al's cheating on her that she dyed her hair bleach blonde to match Capone's current 15-year-old mistress's hair color. Apparently he had all his girlfriends dye their hair blonde.
2. Virginia Hill, nicknamed "the Flamingo" was the mistress of this mobster who named his Las Vegas casino after her.

Answer: Bugsy Siegel

You might not know it from the famous movie "Bugsy" in which Annette Bening played Virginia Hill to Warren Beatty's Bugsy Siegel, but Ms. Hill was something of a racketeer herself before, during and after her Siegel liaison. While working at Chicago's San Carlo Italian Village, she met Joe Epstein, Al Capone's bookmaker which led to her becoming a mistress, cash carrier, money launderer and spy for some of the era's leading racketeers. She laundered money at the horse track and lured men into placing bets on fixed boxing matches.
3. Judith Campbell Exner was the first of President John F. Kennedy's mistresses to be publicly identified, and was also the lover of Mafia bosses John Roselli and which other more well-known mob man?

Answer: Sam Giancana

Frank Sinatra was the one who introduced Judith to a JFK while he was a Massachusetts senator campaigning for the presidency. Sinatra also introduced her to a businessman named Sam Flood, aka gangster Sam Giancana.
4. The "Teflon Don" John Gotti met his half Italian/half Russian-Jewish wife Victoria DiGiorgio, in a bar back in 1958. They married in 1962. What crime family did John Gotti become the boss of?

When Paul Castellano, the Gambino crime boss was going to be imprisoned, control of the gang was handed over to Gotti and two other men. Castellano was eventually famously gunned down outside Sparks Steak House in December 1985 while Gotti watched from a nearby car. Their daughter Victoria Gotti has become a well-known "New York Post" columnist and television personality starring in "Growing Up Gotti" and "Celebrity Apprentice."
5. In the 1972 film, "The Godfather," who portrayed Michael Corleone's (played by Al Pacino) first wife?

Answer: Simonetta Stefanelli

When Michael Corleone went into hiding back to Sicily after killing the drug lord who attempted to kill his father, he fell in love with a beautiful woman named Apollonia Vitelli. I think this might have been the first time I saw a woman's boobies in a movie theatre, and I was very impressed as a pubescent young'un. Kay Adams, played by Diane Keaton, had met and dated Michael prior to this but had no idea where he fled to.

The family wouldn't tell her either because it would make them vulnerable to a court for having "knowledge of his whereabouts". Back in Sicily, Michael and Apollonia had married, but she was soon after killed in a car bomb that was meant for Michael. Appolonia was played by actress Simonetta Stefanelli.
6. Karen Hill was the wife of Henry Hill, the mobster turned snitch. Today, she lives under an assumed name. She was portrayed in the Martin Scorsese film "Goodfellas" by Lorraine Bracco. Which crime family were Karen and Henry involved in?

Answer: Lucchese crime family

Karen was born Karen Friedman in New York City, raised on Long Island by her Jewish parents. Her parents did not approve of the relationship, and the two eloped to North Carolina where they married; Karen was 19-years-old.
7. Linda Schiro aka "Big Linda," was the wife of this Colombo family capo and assassin, and their daughter was "Little Linda." Who was this Mob hitman known as "the Grim Reaper"?

Answer: Greg Scarpa

He got the nickname "Grim Reaper" because he preferred to carry out his murders himself instead of assigning the hits to other hitmen. Scarpa was able to avoid prison for so long because he had been an FBI informant for nearly all his years in the mob. In interviews, when Big Linda would recall the nice things about her marriage to him, daughter Little Linda would remind her, "Let's not forget he killed people, Ma-a lot of people." He did eventually die in prison in 1994 from AIDS due to a bad blood transfusion.
8. After 16 year as a fugitive and 12 on FBI's 10 Most Wanted List, their manhunt for this Boston mobster finally ended when they caught up to him with his girlfriend Katherine Greig in California.

Answer: Whitey Bulger

At the age of 81, Bulger was finally arrested with Ms Greig outside a Santa Monica apartment on June 22, 2011. They were extradited to Massachusetts and on June 12, 2013, Bulger went on trial for 32 counts of racketeering, money laundering, extortion, weapons charges, and for taking part in 19 murders. The trial resulted in two consecutive life sentences.
9. Edie Falco won three Emmy Awards for portraying the wife of Tony Soprano on the iconic HBO TV series about a fictional mob family, "The Sopranos." Which of these actresses played a character that Tony Soprano had affair with on the show?

Answer: Annabella Sciorra
