Robert Wadlow had four siblings and two parents, his middle name, Pershing, was in honor of the World War I General Pershing. All together his name means: bright frame (Robert) Grower or seller of peaches (Pershing) hill, barrow (Wadlow).
2. Where was Robert Wadlow born?

Answer: Alton, Illinois

One of Robert's nicknames was "The Alton Giant" because he lived in Alton, Illinois. Alton is supposed to be one of America's most haunted towns.

Robert loved to do all of these which shows he was like any other child. But life became hard because his pituitary gland was overactive and it didn't help that many people bothered him as he got older.
4. Robert Wadlow was also the tallest what?

Answer: Boy Scout

He became the tallest Boy Scout at age 13 with height of 7'4". It took 14 yards of material to make his Boy Scout uniform fit his body.

Robert's shoes were size 37AA and cost $100.00 a pair, the shoe company eventually supplied him with free shoes. Robert's father had to take out the front passenger seat of their family car so that Robert could stretch out his legs on the drive to make the appearances.

Answer: 747

He made appearances around the country (U.S.A), appearing at everything from store grand openings to Ringling Brothers/Barnum&Bailey Circus. Robert and his father traveled over 300,000 miles by car across the country.
7. When did Robert Wadlow die?

Answer: July 15, 1940

Nearly 40,000 people attended his funeral and it took 12 pallbearers to carry the casket at his funeral. It weighed about 1000 lbs. and was placed in a 12' long reinforced concrete tomb.

Answer: The Gentle Giant

Robert had a very quiet manner about him that earned him this title. He was also always very polite to other people and had a good sense of humor about his height.
9. How did Robert Wadlow die?

Answer: infection

Whilst making an appearance in Michigan an infection set into his left ankle. After emergency surgery and blood transfusions he passed away at 1:30 am on July 15, 1940. (He never had much feeling in his feet).
10. At the time of his death how tall was Robert Wadlow?

Answer: 8'11"

To be exact he was 8'11.1" tall, surpassing the record previously held by an 8', 4" inch Irishman who died in 1877. His grave is the tallest one in the graveyard where it is located and it reads "At Rest".
