As diplomatic moves to make friends with the Spanish were being undertaken, Morgan was arrested for political show. However, when put on trial in England, he was pardoned by King Charles II.

He was even knighted in 1674. The British realized Morgan helped the British cause with his raiding and plundering of Spanish possessions.
