Rachel Carson was a marine biologist who wrote the book "Silent Spring". She was called a radical, but her quiet study and perseverance paid off when Congress passed a law limiting pesticides and outlawing many. She died of cancer.

Adolf Hitler, although evil, had a way with politics and propaganda. He and his henchmen exercised total power in Germany from 1933-1945. He is notorious for unleashing the Second World War in 1939. (In fact he invaded and/or annexed all countries bordering on Germany, except Swtizterland).

He had no hesitation in having his political opponents, imaginary and real, sent to concentration camps, tortured and murdered. For many he is most notorious for making a particularly frenzied and obsessive variety of anti-Semitism central to his policies.

This fanatical hatred culminated in the extermination of six million Jews - as well as other groups that he hated, of which there were many.
