Thomas the Slav (c. 760-823) led the Byzantine Empire in a revolt against Michael II Amoria from 821 to 823. The revolt was anything but successful. Thomas was exchanged for a pardon but was executed. He was from the city of Gaziura in Asia Minor but his exact year of birth is not known.

He was also honored in the Soviet Union because of views that were communistic in his book, "Utopia". (The stele which listed his name was removed in 2013).
