Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After the death of her husband, Nabal, she married David. What was her name?

Answer: Abigail

When David and his men were hiding in the desert from the wrath of King Saul, they asked for help in the form of food and wine from Nabal. Nabal was a very rich man but the scriptures tell us he was also surly and evil. Nabal refused to help David and insulted him. Abigail, Nabal's wife, intervened. Unlike her husband, the Bible says that Abigail was an intelligent and beautiful woman.

She gathered supplies for David and his men. About ten days later, Nabal died. When David heard this, he asked Abigail to become his wife and she accepted.

The story of David, Abigail and Nabal can be read in 1 Samuel 25.
2. Here's one of the three faithful Jews whom King Nebuchadnezzar had thrown into the fiery furnace. Who was this man who, with his two companions, was liberated unharmed from the fire?

Answer: Abednego

Abednego's actual Hebrew name was Azariah but his name was changed to Abednego by the chief offical under Nebuchadnezzar. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (originally Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah) refused to worship a large golden idol as ordered. They were thrown into a furnace to be burned alive.

When Nebuchadnezzar saw them walking around in the fire unhurt, he called them out. He then ordered that anyone who said anything against their god should be cut into pieces and their houses turned into rubble because "no other god can save in this way". (Daniel 3:29). You can read the entire story of the fiery furnace in Daniel 3.
3. This young girl was chosen as nurse to the aging King David. Who was she?

Answer: Abishag

When King David was very old and very feeble, he had trouble keeping warm, even when covered. His servants found a young virgin to take care of the king. She would look after him and lie next to him to keep him warm. The Bible says that they did not have intimate relations, however.

This method of nursing did not work well, for David died soon after. You can find this story in 1 Kings 1:1-3.
4. Known as an eloquent speaker, he was the elder brother of Moses. Who was he?

Answer: Aaron

Moses had complained to God that he was not eloquent and "slow of speech and tongue" when God wanted him to speak to Pharaoh on behalf of the people of Israel (Exodus 4:10). Moses asked God to send someone else. God replied, "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well." (Exodus 4:14). So Moses took Aaron with him to speak to Pharaoh.
5. He was Saul's cousin and the captain of his army. Who was he?

Answer: Abner

Abner was Saul's commander-in-chief and upon Saul's death Abner placed Saul's son Ish-bosheth on the throne. When Ish-bosheth insulted Abner, he conspired with David to make David king over all of Israel. David's own commander-in-chief, Joab, later murdered Abner in revenge because Abner had killed Joab's brother in battle (2 Samuel 3).
6. An elderly widow and prophetess, she served tirelessly in the temple, waiting for the Messiah to come. She was rewarded by seeing the baby Jesus with her own eyes. What is her name?

Answer: Anna

Anna was very old but had not lost hope of seeing the Messiah. She was rewarded when Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to the temple to be consecrated. "She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying". (Luke 2:37)
7. The great-grandson of Herod the Great, he found Paul's presentation of the Gospel to be "persuasive".

Answer: Agrippa

This is Herod Agrippa II, son of Herod Agrippa I and a descendant of Herod the Great. He arrived in Caesarea to pay his respects to Festus. Paul was being held there before being sent on to Rome for a trial before Caesar. Paul had the opportunity to present his case (and the Gospel) to Agrippa.

This produced Agrippa's well known response, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?" (Acts 26:28). You can read this story and Paul's entire presentation to Agrippa in Acts 25-26.
8. He was the brother of Simon Peter and one of the twelve disciples. What was his name?

Answer: Andrew

In addition to being one of the twelve disciples, Andrew is sometimes called the first missionary because he brought his brother to Jesus. "The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, 'We have found the Messiah' (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus." (John 1:41)
9. Who was the first man and the husband of Eve?

Answer: Adam

"The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." (Genesis 2:7). You can read the story of Adam in Genesis 2-5.
10. Who was the seventh king of Israel and the husband of Jezebel?

Answer: Ahab

An able and victorious commander, Ahab just became more greedy and evil with his success. No king since Solomon had been more victorious than Ahab, but it was never enough. His evil and conniving wife, Jezebel, only made his rule worse. Read the story of Ahab, Jezebel and Naboth's vineyard in 1 Kings 21.
