Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one was a ruthless adversary of Elijah, a prophet of God, as per 1 Kings 18:9?

Answer: Ahab

Ahab was an evil king of Israel, who, along with his wicked wife Jezebel, was vehemently opposed to the prophets of God, most notably Elijah. Ahab and Jezebel were responsible for killing a large number of the prophets, but were unsuccessful in their relentless efforts to remove Elijah from the scene.

According to 1 Kings 16:33, Ahab did more to provoke God to anger "than all the kings of Israel who were before him."
2. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one was the king of Persia during the time of Esther? (The NIV uses a different name.)

Answer: Ahasuerus

Ahasuerus, also known as Xerxes in the NIV, is the correct answer. According to Esther 1:1 , he ruled a Persian empire that consisted of one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, stretching from India in the east to Ethiopia in the west. (In the NIV, Ethiopia is referred to as Cush.)

It was during Ahasuerus' reign, Haman, one of his assistants, devised an evil scheme to kill all the Jews in the Persian empire. Haman, however, was prevented from carrying out his fiendish plans thanks to the actions of Esther and her cousin Mordecai.
3. Out of the four names below starting with letters 'AHA', which one was the son of Queen Athalia and a king of Judah, as per 2 Kings 8:25?

Answer: Ahaziah

Ahaziah is the correct answer. According to 2 Kings 8:25, he was the son of Athalia, a wicked and ruthless queen who is perhaps best known for killing her grandchildren to cement her hold on power. Scripture states Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king and he reigned one year in Jerusalem.

It must be pointed out there were two kings with the name Ahaziah. The other king ruled over Israel in a different time period than Ahaziah of Judah.
4. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one was the son of Jotham and became an evil king of Judah when he was twenty, as per 2 Kings 16:21?

Answer: Ahaz

The exploits of Ahaz, king of Judah, are chronicled in the 16th chapter of 2 Kings 16:1. He was the son of Jotham and crowned king when he was twenty, reigning sixteen years in Jerusalem.

Verse 3 of the chapter states Ahaz "made his son pass through the fire", a practice associated with those who worshiped Baal. The following verse in the NKJV states, "he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree."
5. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one, according to 1 Chronicles 4:8 was the son of Harum of the tribe of Judah?

Answer: Aharhel

Aharhel was the son of Harum and of the tribe of Judah. However, little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. Using the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, his name can be found in only 1 Chronicles 4:8.
6. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one, according to 2 Samuel 23:34, was the father of Eliphelet, one of King David's Warriors?

Answer: Ahasbai

Ahasbai was the father of Eliphelet, one of King David's Mighty Men, as per 2 Samuel 23:34. However, little is known about Ahasbai as he is mentioned in passing reference. His name can be found in only 2 Samuel 23:34, using the KJV, NKJV and the NIV.
7. Out of the four placenames below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one, according to Ezra 8:15-31, was the name of the river where the Israelites, led by Ezra, camped for three days?

Answer: Ahava

Ezra 8:15 in the NKJV tells of the Israleites camping at the rive of Ahava for three days with fasting and prayer taking place. According to Verse 21, Ezra proclaimed the fast "that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions." The passage goes on to tell of the Israelites departing form the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month and heading to Jerusalem to re-build the wall around the city.

"The hand of our God was upon us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambush along the road," Ezra states in the passage.

Scholars are not entirely certain as to where the river of Ahava was. The Website Biblestudtytools.com, however, states, in all probability the river was a stream in Mesopotamia which flowed into the Euphrates River in northwestern Babylon.
8. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one, according to 1 Chronicles 8:1, was the son of Benjamin?

Answer: Aharah

Aharah was one of five sons of Benjamin, as per 1 Chronicles 8:1. His four brothers were Bela, Ashbel, Nohah and Rapha. Using the KJV, NKJV and the NIV this is the only instance in which Aharah's name appears in Scripture. In Numbers 26:38 in the three Bible versions, Aharah is known as Ahiram.
9. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one, according to Jeremiah 29:21, was the son of Kolaiah and labeled a false prophet by God? (Careful, this one is tricky.)

Answer: Ahab

I suspect it will come as a surprise to many, but Ahab is the correct answer. However, he is not the Ahab who ruled as king of Israel and was married to Jezebel, generally perceived as the most wicked woman in the Bible. Ahab the king was the son of Omri.

Jeremiah 29:21 tells of God, through the prophet Jeremiah, denouncing Ahab, the son of Kolaiah as well as Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah. The verse states Ahab and Zedekiah are guilty of prophesying lies "in My name" and they would be delivered into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, "and he shall slay them before your eyes."
10. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHA', which one was the son of Ahab and a king of Israel, as per 1 Kings 22:51?

Answer: Ahaziah

1 Kings 22:51 tells of Ahaziah, the son of Ahab, becoming king of Israel in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. Ahaziah reigned two years over Israel and is regarded as a wicked king.

According to 1 Kings 22:52, Ahaziah "did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father."

It must be pointed out there were two different men called Ahaziah in the Old Testament who ruled as king. One ruled over Judah and the other over Israel. However, they did not rule during the same time frame.

For information about Ahaziah, the king of Judah, see the answer section to Question No. 3.
