Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who spoke these words from the King James Version of the Bible? "Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem"

Answer: Jesus

Luke 13:33

Certain Pharisees urged him to leave, warning that Herod would kill him.
2. According to the King James Version of the New Testament, who has a right to the 'tree of life'?

Answer: Those that do the commandments.

KJV -Revelation 22:14
"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 19:16-17 again about the importance of keeping the commandments.
3. Jesus tells us why he was sent by his Father to do his will. Do you remember why?

Answer: He tells us that he was sent to bring sinners to repentance.

Jesus came to preach repentance. From the King James Version:

Matthew 3:2 "And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Matthew 3:8 "Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:"

Matthew 4:17 "From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Matthew 9:13 "But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Mark 6:11-13 "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them."
4. According to the King James Bible, the specific gift of 'grace' was first given to whom?

Answer: Noah

KJV - Genesis 6:8 "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD."

Noah was given grace, that's why he was saved from the flood.
5. According to Chapter 27 of Isaiah, the exile of the Israelites was meant to _____________.

Answer: Atone for their sins.

KJV - Isaiah 27:9 "By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up."

KJV - Jeremiah 31:2 "Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest."

God promised the descendants of Israel who, through exile, captivity, and marriage with Gentiles had become assimilated and acculturated Gentiles, that they would find "grace in the wilderness". It's interesting to note that their exile was their atonement and that it was bloodless.
6. True or false. According to Peter in Acts, those that fear God and work righteousness are acceptable to God.

Answer: True

KJV - Acts 10:34-35 "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him."

This incident is in reference to Cornelius, not a Jew mind you, and not a convert to Judaism, keeping the Laws of God written on his heart. Cornelius and Dorcas both gave alms to the needy, which is taught to result in honoring God and bringing Eternal Life. When Peter went to Dorcas' chambers, he found that she had died, then he prayed and presented her alive to the guests.
7. After the crucifixion, who was the head of the Jerusalem church?

Answer: James

KJV - Acts 15:13, 19, 20, 28-29
"And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well."

In verse 13 it is James speaking, and in verse 19 he gives his 'sentence' and the requirements that seemed good to the Holy Ghost are listed in verse 20, and again in verse 29. Interestingly, the Holy Spirit deemed these 'necessary things' for the Gentiles to follow, after the crucifixion.
8. Isaiah 7:14 - "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." To whom was the sign supposed to be given?

Answer: Ahaz

KJV - Isaiah 7:8-14

"For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people. And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established. Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying, Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

Ahaz is of the house of David. The birth - or the name - was to be a sign to Ahaz. Also, in verse 8, a clear timeframe is given from that time. The sign was to appear during Ahaz's lifetime, within 65 years.

According to the Blue Letter Bible Concordance the Hebrew word 'shishshiym' means sixty (three score).
9. According to scripture, (King James Version) Matthew 24:11-12, who made the prediction that false prophets would bring about a condition of being without the law, which would cause the love of many to wax cold?

Answer: Jesus

KJV - Matthew 24:11-12 "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."

From the Blue Letter Bible Concordance, we see that the Greek word 'anomia' is defined as iniquity, the condition of being without the law, because of being ignorant of it, violating it, or contempt for it.
10. Jeremiah 31:31 - "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah ..." What happens under this new covenant?

Answer: God's Law remains.

KJV - Jeremiah 31:32-33
"Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."

We can see in verse 33 that God's law remains. The only thing that has changed is the location of God's laws.
