Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the names below, which two were the sons of Jacob and Zilpah? (Genesis 35:26)

Answer: Gad and Asher

Gad and Asher were the sons of Jacob and Zilpah, Leah's handmaiden. While married to two sisters, Leah and Rachel, Jacob fathered thirteen children with his two wives and their two handmaidens. Scripture states he was the father of twelve sons and one daughter, with Zilpah being the mother of two of his sons.
2. Out of the names below, which two were the daughters-in-law of Naomi?

Answer: Ruth and Orpah

Ruth and Oraph were the daughters-in-law of Naomi, as per Ruth 1:4. Naomi's husband was Elimelech while Ruth was married to her son Mahlon and Orpah was married to Chilion. Scripture tells of the three men dying and leaving the three women as widows. While Orpah opted to return to her home country of Moab, Ruth stayed by Naomi's side.
3. Out of the names below, which two were the husbands of Bathsheba?

Answer: Uriah and David

Bathsheba was initially married to Uriah, a soldier, and she ended up marrying David after her husband was killed in battle. Scripture tells of David and Bathsheba having an adulterous affair while Uriah was away in battle and when Bathsheba became pregnant, David schemed and eventually orchestrated the murder of Uriah. David ordered Uriah be placed at the very front on the battle line with instructions to his supporting soldiers to suddenly retreat, resulting in the death of Bathsheba's first husband.
4. Out of the names below, which two were the husbands of Abigail?

Answer: Nabal and David

Abigail was initially married to Nabal, a rich landowner who was known for being "harsh and evil" and she ended up marrying David after Nabal's death. According to 1 Samuel 25:38, Nabal was struck dead by God. Verse 42 tells of Abigail, described as "a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance", becoming David's wife.
5. Out of the names below, which two were the twin sons of Judah and Tamar? (Genesis 38:27-30)

Answer: Perez and Zerah

Peraz and Zerah were the twin sons of Judah and Tamar, as per Genesis 38:27-30. They were the second set of documented twins in Scripture, with Jacob and Esau being the first.

According to Scripture, Tamar was the daughter-in-law of Judah and she was involved in a tryst with Judah when she was a widow. Following the tryst, she became pregnant and gave birth to Peraz and Zedrah.
6. Out of the titles of Old Testament books below, which two are part of the Minor Prophet section of the Old Testament?

Answer: Amos and Habukkuk

Amos and Habukkuk are both part of the Minor Prophet section of the Old Testament. The two books are named after the men who were the authors.

The Minor Prophet section appears at the end of the Old Testament and consists of twelve books. In order of appearance in Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, the books are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.
7. Out of the names below, which two were once barren women who were miraculously able to conceive?

Answer: Sarah and Hannah

Sarah and Hannah at one time were both unable to conceive but things changed dramatically thanks to divine intervention. Scripture tells of Sarah giving birth to Isaac and Hannah giving birth to Samuel.

Meanwhile, there is no documentation in Scripture about Tamar, Dinah, Bathsheba, Cozbi, Lot's wife and Noah's wife being unable to conceive.
8. Out of the names of New Testament books below, which ones were written by Paul?

Answer: 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy

1 Timothy and 2 Timothy were both written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The two books, which were actually letters, were addressed to Timothy, a young and timid worker in the early church.

Acts was written by Luke while Revelation was written by John. Meanwhile, 1 Peter, Jude, Matthew and Mark are all named after the authors of the books.
9. What two members of the original Twelve Disciples were involved in a footrace to Christ's empty tomb?

Answer: Peter and John

Peter and John, who is described as the "disciple Jesus loved", were involved in a footrace to Christ's empty tomb, as per John 20:1-4. According to Verse 4, John won the race and arrived at the empty tomb before Peter.

With John winning the footrace, some theologians have speculated John was somewhat younger than Peter. They have also speculated John was nimble while Peter was big and burly.

It must be pointed out, some modern-day theologians question if John was really the "disciple Jesus loved." However, going by tradition, John was truly the disciple mentioned in the passage.
10. What two members of the original Twelve Disciples were the sons of Zebedee? (Matthew 4:21)

Answer: James and John

James and John were the sons of Zebedee, as per Matthew 4:21. According to the verse, Zebedee and his two sons were fishermen. Little is known about Zebedee, however, as he is mentioned in passing reference. It is not absolutely certain, but it is believed Salome was Zebedee's wife and the mother of James and John.
