Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It rained so hard that nobody except my family and I survived.

Answer: Noah

Noah spent 120 years building the ark-- the first ship in Biblical history. People must have laughed at him because they probably had never seen such a creation. They died in the flood and only Noah and his family (eight people in total) survived (Gen 7:23). Oh, and the animals in the ark.
2. The Israelites were all stuck between the Red Sea and Pharaoh's men. What did God do to rescue them?

Answer: Cause a stiff east wind to part the sea

Moses lifted up his rod and God parted the sea (Ex 14:21). By the time the Israelites stepped upon the seabed, the ground had dried up. When Pharoah's men pursued the Israelites, however, their chariot wheels could not turn properly (Ex 14:25). All of the Egyptians died a watery death.
3. In the time of the Judges, the Philistines came to invade Israel. What did God do to terrify the Philistines in 1st Samuel?

Answer: Send thunder

Because Israel put away their idols and served God only, God fought for them, smiting the Philistines. After this incident, the Philistines dared not bother the Israelites living in the cost during the time Samuel ruled as a judge (1 Sam 7). God must have sent a huge roll of thunder to scare them so!
4. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah sees a weather occurrence among other interesting happenings. What is it?

Answer: A hurricane/tornado

In 1 Kings 19:11, it says that "great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks," which sounds similar to what a hurricane does. Following the wind came an earthquake and a fire, after which Elijah felt a gentle blowing. Afterward, God spoke to Elijah and told him to anoint Jehu as king.
5. I went to heaven in a tornado. Who am I?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah went to heaven riding a fiery chariot pulled by fiery horses, who were carried by the wind (2 Kings 2:11). The Bible calls it a "whirlwind" but hey, a tornado is nearly the same, right?

Other than Elijah, Enoch was the only other person in the Bible who went to heaven without dying (Gen 5:24).
6. I ran away from God's calling for me, taking a ship heading towards the opposite direction. Unfortunately, a storm started at sea and the men threw me overboard. Who am I?

Answer: Jonah

When the storm started, the shipmaster found Jonah sleeping. After casting lots, the men decided to throw Jonah overboard, and the sea calmed. A large fish swallowed Jonah up and he spent three days and three nights in the belly of that fish. On the fourth day, the fish spit Jonah onto dry ground. This time, Jonah obediently went to Nineveh, where God told him to go.
7. A storm came upon the disciples of Jesus while they were at sea. Jesus nearly slept through the storm; He would have if His disciples did not wake Him up. He stilled the waves, and how did the disciples react?

Answer: They were astonished

When Jesus woke up, He called the disciples "men of little faith," scolding them for their fear. After Jesus calmed the waves, the disciples "marveled" and said, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?" (Matthew 8:27) In the Gospel of Mark, however, they were terrified (4:41). Imagine seeing someone change the weather with a command!
8. Jesus' disciples got caught in a storm but Jesus was not with them. They saw Jesus walking upon the water. Who wanted to walk upon water too?

Answer: Peter

When the disciples first saw Jesus they thought they saw a ghost and nearly panicked. Jesus comforted them saying that it was He, and Peter wanted to walk upon the water too. Peter accomplished the feat until he looked down at the waves. As he started getting afraid, he began to sink, calling out for help. Jesus steadied him, reproaching him for his little faith.

After they entered the boat, the waves and winds ceased. The disciples responded by worshipping and calling Jesus the "Son of God" (Matthew 14:24-33)
9. Before the flames of fire alighted upon the disciples of Jesus at the Pentecost, what did they feel?

Answer: A rushing wind

Usually, historians believe that the Pentecost happened forty-nine days after Easter. After this incident, the disciples of Jesus could speak in tongues, languages of other lands which they did not know before. Some people accused them of getting drunk in broad daylight. On that day, about three thousand people were converted to Christianity (Acts 2:2-15, 41).
10. While we were at sea, a large storm came upon our ship so that we all got shipwrecked. A viper bit me, but I was not harmed.

Answer: Paul

Paul went to Rome as a prisoner because he had appealed to Caesar. Even though Paul warned the crew not to set forth from Crete, they disregarded him and ran into a storm. No one died, but the ship was lost(Acts 27: 21-22).

When the viper bit Paul, the locals believed that he was a murderer and "fate" was dealing out punishment. But when Paul did not suffer any ill effects, the locals changed their minds and called him a god (Acts 27: 4-6)
