Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What book do the Latter-Day Saints believe in that most other churches do not possess?

Answer: The Book of Mormon

Latter-Day Saints believe in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. The Bible is the record of God's prophets in the old world, and The Book of Mormon is the record of God's prophets in the Americas.

There are a few other churches that hold the Book of Mormon sacred, but are not part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They do, however, share the history of the movement.
2. Who was the "founder of Mormonism", the first Latter-Day prophet?

Answer: Joseph Smith Jr.

Latter-Day Saints believe that Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ after praying to know which church on the earth to join. His answer was that none of the churches on the earth were true. This later led to him, with God's help, translating the Book of Mormon from an ancient language and founding the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
3. Name two books of scripture that Latter-Day Saints believe in.

Answer: the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price

The Doctrine and Covenants contains much of Church history back in Joseph Smith's time. The Pearl of Great Price contains the books of Moses and Abraham, as well as Joseph Smith - Matthew and Joseph Smith - History.
4. Which of these was written by the first Latter-Day prophet?

Answer: Articles of Faith

The Articles of Faith were written by Joseph Smith, and outline the basic beliefs and principles of the Church. They are separate from the Book of Mormon.
5. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has supported practicing polygamy into the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Answer: False

Although there was polygamy in Joseph Smith's time, the Church has long ended that practice, and the rumor that the Church still sanctions the practice of polygamy is false.
6. Which best describes what Latter-Day Saints do not partake of, according to the Word of Wisdom?

Answer: no tea, coffee, or alcohol

The Word of Wisdom advises against the partaking of these substances, as they can be dangerous and harmful to the human body.
7. What was the verse scripture that first convinced Joseph Smith that he needed to go pray for an answer to his question?

Answer: James 1:5

James 1:5 reads:
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him."
8. Who was the Latter-Day prophet who passed away January 27th, 2008, and who took his place as prophet?

Answer: Gordon B. Hinckley was replaced by Thomas S. Monson

Gordon B. Hinckley was responsible for the building of many new temples, the statement "The Family: A Proclamation to the World," and the Perpetual Education Fund. Thomas S. Monson was ordained to take his place.
9. Latter-Day Saints have had great success as famous authors, and politicians.

Answer: True

For those of you who have read the "Twilight" series or "The Host", the author of both of these -- Stephenie Meyer -- is a Latter-Day Saint. As she says on her website www.stepheniemeyer.com: "I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or Mormon, as we are commonly called...) and that has a huge influence on who I am and my perspective on the world, and therefore what I write (though I have been asked more than once, "What's a nice Mormon girl like you doing writing about vampires?")." In 2008, Latter-Day Saint Mitt Romney ran for President.

Another interesting fact: although she may not be a Latter-Day Saint, Olesya Rulin (Kelsi in the movie "High School Musical") stars in a Mormon movie called "Mobsters and Mormons."
10. Latter-Day Saints believe in Jesus Christ.

Answer: True

Latter-Day Saints believe Jesus Christ to be the Savior of the world. This is also demonstrated in their name: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
