Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fill in the blank: "_____________ is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth, in the seat of the scornful."

Answer: Blessed

In this first psalm David teaches us that God wants us to live just lives and not sin.
2. In the 16th Psalm, what does David say is at God's right hand?

Answer: pleasures

Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

In the New Testament the Bible says Jesus sits at the right hand of God.
3. In Psalm 17:8 David asks God to hide him in a shadow under God's what?

Answer: wing

Psalm 17:8 says, "Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings."

Besides being a King, and killing Goliath as a child, David was also a great poet.
4. Many of the Psalms have become songs of worship in the church. The song "I Will Call Upon the Lord" is from Psalm 18. What is the verse that gives us the song?

Answer: 3

Psalm 18:3 "I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies."

The rest of the this popular church chorus can be found in Psalm 18:46.
5. Psalm 23 is one of the best known, and recited books of the Bible. See if you can fill in the blanks. "The Lord is my _________ I shall not want." According to the King James Version, what goes in the blank?

Answer: shepherd

Psalm 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want."

Farming was very common in Bibical times as they didn't have a grocery store they could run to when they needed food. Since it was so common, many references in the Bible relate to farming, especially sheep. The shepherd takes care of his sheep and makes sure they have everything they need. Likewise, the Lord takes care of us, and makes sure we have everything we need.
6. What does David ask God to forgive?

Answer: All his sins

Psalm 25:18 "Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins."

David's sins can be found in II Samuel 12:1-14. He committed adultery when he slept with Bathsheba. Then he committed murder when he killed her husband. There are other sins as well but those are two that are well known about David. David's story shows that God can forgive anything...even murder.
7. In Psalm 28:7 David says: "The Lord is my _________ and my _______________." What two "S" words complete the verse?

Answer: strength and shield

There was a song written based on this verse as well called "Strength and Shield". The song was written by Rick Stokes.
8. What does David say to keep from evil in Psalm 34:13?

Answer: tongue

Pslam 34:13 "Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile."

I did a search at biblegateway.com to see how many times the word "tongue" is mentioned in the KJV. It is mentioned 160 times. 33 of those times are found in the book of Psalms.
9. What does David say to cease from in Psalm 37:8?

Answer: anger

Psalm 37:8 "Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil."

God does not want people to get angry at each other. He says we can be angry at the act, not the person. This makes sense because anger toward people leads to cruel actions and even murder.
10. Who will borrow and not pay back?

Answer: the wicked

Psalm 37:21 "The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth."

There are 150 chapters in the book of Psalms. I hope you enjoyed Part I of this book of the Bible.
