Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Cain and Lamech were the first two murderers in the Bible and both crimes are documented in the same chapter -- Genesis 4.

Answer: True

Genesis 4 provides details about the murders committed by Cain and by Lamech. Genesis 4:1-15 tells of Cain killing his brother Abel due to a severe fit of jealousy. Meanwhile, Genesis 4:19-24 tells of Lamech, the son of Methushael, killing an unnamed man who had wounded him.

Here's some trivia about Lamech: Going strictly by Scripture, he was the first polygamist. According to Genesis 4:19, he was married to Adah and Zillah. Apart from Eve, Adah is the first woman mentioned by name in the Bible.
2. In addition to being married to Rebekah, Isaac had two other wives -- Judith and Basemath.

Answer: False

False. There is no documentation in Scripture about Isaac being married to anyone else than Rebekah. Out of the three patriarchs in Genesis, Isaac is the only one to have only one wife, according to Scripture. The two other patriarchs were Abraham and Jacob.

For the record, Judith and Basemath were both wives of Esau, the oldest son of Isaac and Rebekah. See Genesis 26:34 for details.
3. Moses and Aaron were first cousins.

Answer: False

False. Moses and Aaron were brothers, as per Exodus 4:14. The two brothers formed a dynamic duo and led the Israelites out of Egypt on a forty-year-long journey to Canaan, known as the Promised Land. Moses and Aaron were assisted by their sister Miriam.
4. The baby boy born as a result of an adulterous affair between David and Bathsheba was named Solomon.

Answer: False

False. Going by Scripture, the infant died shortly after birth and was never named. If the infant was named by David and Bathsheba, there is no indication in Scripture.

After the death of the unnamed infant, David and Bathsheba had a second son, and he was named Solomon. Solomon would go on to become king of Israel, replacing his father David.

See 2 Samuel 12:1-24 for details.
5. After the miraculous birth of Samuel, Hannah also bore other sons and daughters.

Answer: True

True. Hannah had more children after the miraculous birth of Samuel. 1 Samuel 2:21 states, "...the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters."

Taking everything at face value, she had five children. However, some Bible scholars believe Hannah actually had six children as the three sons and two daughters mentioned in Verse 21 could very well be in addition to Samuel.

Similar to a number of other women in the Bible, Hannah was barren for the longest time before being able to miraculously conceive.
6. Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, was young, about the same age of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Answer: False

False. Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist even though she and her husband Zecharias were both "well advanced in years", according to the first chapter of Luke.

Scripture, states Zecharias, who is also known as Zechariah in the NIV, was rendered speechless by an angel until John the Baptist was born as he had scoffed at the angel's announcement he would become a father.

Luke 1:11-25 tells of the angel Gabriel appearing before Zecharias and telling him of the upcoming birth of their son.

Details about Mary giving birth to Jesus, while she was still a virgin, can be found in Matthew 1:18-25. While Mary's age is not given in Scripture, it is widely believed she was in her early teens as it was the custom for females to marry at an extremely young age in Biblical times.
7. No one knows for certain who wrote the Book of Hebrews.

Answer: True

True. When it comes to the Book of Hebrews, there is no conclusive proof about the identity of the author. Some scholars believe Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, wrote the book but many others strongly disagree with such a view.

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Apollos and Barnabas are just two names that have surfaced over the centuries in regards to the author's identity. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible also state Priscilla has been suggested as the author.

Despite all the speculation, no one knows for certain who wrote the nineteenth book in the New Testament.
8. The father of Judas Iscariot was called Simon.

Answer: True

True. Judas Iscariot's father was Simon but not much is known about Simon as he is mentioned in passing reference. His name appears in three different places in the Gospel of John -- 13:2, 13:26 and 14:4.

He is just one of a number of different people in the New Testament named Simon. Some examples that leap to mind are Simon Peter, Simon of Cyrene, Simon the Tanner and Simon the Leper.
9. Jesus was about thirty years old when He started His ministry?

Answer: True

True. Luke 3:23 states Jesus was about thirty years old when He started His ministry. I find it highly interesting Jesus started His ministry thirty years after His birth only to end up being betrayed for thirty pieces of silver by Judas Iscariot.

Most Bible scholars conclude His ministry lasted three years, meaning Christ would have been about age thirty-three when He was crucified.
10. Revelation was written by John while in exile on the island of Crete.

Answer: False

False. John, the writer of Revelation, was in exile on the island of Patmos, as per Revelation 1:9.

Tradition holds the writer was the same John who was one of the original Twelve Disciples. However, some modern-day theologians dispute this fact.

For the record, the islands of Crete and Patmos are both part of Greece.
